Well, I'm going to concentrate on my double clutching and downshifting first.....there might be a tranny left when i'm done....we'll see

Then I can worry about narrow roads. :)

Preventable or not. Just another day trucking in the patch. We work in the most challangeing conditions anywhere in the world. We see this stuff often. We take pictures, laugh and head to the next job. Equipment is always replaceable. As long as everyone goes home in one piece, it's all good. :)

Awesome pics. How many of those guys do you figure kept their jobs?

After a few of them I was thinking "I had no idea nate980 had worked for so many different companies" lol :biggrin_25522:

I hope to be out there in January Nate, you will be sure to have lots of opportunities to get some payback. ;)

Hey now.... Lol I'm not that bad of a driver. Yesterday was the slippierest mud I had ever driven in. I'm going straight down the road and my trailer was sliding for the ditch.I'm heading up to red earth tomorrow so I hope I don't repeat what happened there again.

Opt's rright though. No one made fun of me or got mad when I ended up in the ditch. Everyone just said #### happens and they got me out.

You can't run a truck that heavy in those conditions and expect things to always go smoothly. Everyone who sees these pics of the slop you guys are driving through can see that.

As far as the slippery mud, do you run at least one chain on your trailer? Your experience yesterday sure shows the need for it.

I've had three sets of triples on the drives, two steering chains and two sets of triples on my trailer. And still ended up in the ditch! I've been at this for a while now and I've learned when to say no. But sometimes no is not an option. So you have to stop and think for a minute. We are all paid by the hour out here. There's never an issue over time or money. It's alot better to take some extra time to bring out another unit to take your load, or wait for another cat, even if it has to come from 100's of km away ten it is to deal with a wreck.

Just remember two things when driving in the mud on narrow roads.
    1. Trucks don't tip trucks over trailers do so if you have to bury your truck in the ditch to keep your trailer on the road do it.

    2. It's not going in the ditch that flops you over its the sudden stop at the bottom so if your headed towards the ditch just turn into it and go all the way off the road before stopping then get pulled out rather than stood back up.

I have been driving in the patch for twelve years moving drilling rigs and those two pieces of advice have helped me tremendously.

yes i agree and i have done that . road fell apart pulled trailer in so i turned and went with it . most of those pics are preventable , its all comes down to inexperience or driving to fast or both . off hi-way driving is different , there is ways of steering in ice or mud, and chains there not there to look good , i don't how many times i unloaded the cat or excavator i was hauling just to drag my truck up a hill and loaded up and keep going gota love the Elk River Road in the spring most of those pics of tipped bed loads they had what ever it is sucked rite up , last time i did that on a soft lease i almost ended up stuck and on my side
