On Oct. 11-13 American drivers are shutting down. We need to supportt our brothers and do the same it's time for us to stop griping and do something. Let's show our governments just how vital we are to both economies. Viva la revolution!!!!

I appreciate the effort ....... but drivers have been trying this tactic for over 20 years (since the ICC deregulated the trucking bizz AND then Canada followed suit ..... ) and to no avail ..........

I am neither pro or con Union ........... but the only way the North American trucking industry is going to change for the better is with Union organization. Period. Sorry, JMO, based on a 'few' years experience both as a broker, company driver, and specialty ($$) hauler.

I just saw something about this on Facebook, they want 1 million trucks to drive over to the capitol, I bet there will be less than 100. In the 14 years I have been at this every year there is this talk, and nothing ever happens.

question for canadian drivers who happen to be stateside during such a shutdown is the potential for being targeted; I recall my instructor told me how his buddy lost his sight and licence to drive when someone took a shot at his windscreen as he was rolling during the big shutdown. hey, whos willing to forego hazard pay ?

Can't even get truckers to drive the posted speed they want us to maintain at the coops. Truckers need to quit wearing pink panties before they talk about a strike and why the need to drive to the capital? Just shut off the truck and go fishing.

Agreed 100%. There's no agenda, just decend on Washington. Okay. Then what? I've seem waaay too many of these badly organized "shutdowns" in the last 40 years, Trucks get torched, people get maimed, some guys on the edge lose everything they have, a few people get killed (most always because the hilljacks come out and declare open season on drivers), I came home with a .22 cal. bullet hole in the side of my bunk once, they finally caught the goofball shooter in Woodstock ON for that deal and a few others...remember the big shutdown in 1980 @ the Ambassador Bridge? Snarled commerce badly, the Fed Transport Minister came out, listened to the concerns of the day and in more than a few soundbites promised to address those concerns.....his report is due any day now. It's been 33 years in coming.

Me? I'll stay in Canada, or take a day off.

I posted this on the Strike Now thread, but seeing as there is more Tom Foolery I thought I'd post it here also.

There are 24 State that have the Right to Work, that means 1/2 the country will not fall in to your strike movement, without risking being fired.
Right-to-work statutes forbid unions from negotiating agency shops. Thus, while unions do exist in "right-to-work" states, they are typically weaker and their strength in negotiating is pushed a side and dismissed.

So dream on it just ain't going to happen, The jobs people have already may be not what they want? But there is 7.9% of the population unemployed. With the present economic situation to go on Strike now would be an economic employment suicide. Besides Obama has enough problems trying to balance the Budget and get his health care program up and running to worry about your "grievances".

Do you remember President Reagan? He fire about 12,000 Unionized Air Traffic Controllers for striking, because it put the country at risk.

Oh and remember this, although it could cause riots, if you managed to shut down the country, the Troops and National Guard would be brought in to stabilize the country.

Oh here's one for you what have the Unions done for the Detroit Auto Industry recently????

In the past 15 years I've been in the vicinity of a few protests both in Can and the US. In all those instances, word did get out. AND in all those instances, for every one truck in the blockade, easily 500 + stopped, looked at their maps, and figured out a way around said blockade.

Again, I hear the issues. I've been living the issues for years, same as everyone else. The problem is numbers and politics. If the Teamsters had the drivers today that they had 40 + years ago ( read that as pretty much ALL the drivers ), then there wouldn't be any issues. De-regulation and 'free-trade' are here to say. For those of us who don't like it, we can save our pennies and head off to med school to further our credentials and be paid accordingly.

I'm not being curt, I'm being realistic.
