| Trucking firm to pay $25,000 for failing to clean up diesel Trucking firm to pay $25,000 for failing to clean up diesel 7/17/07 The Kingston Whig-Standard, Canada Quote: |
A trucking company has been fined $25,000 for failing to clean up a diesel spill after a tractor-trailer crash near Quinte West.
| Quote: The firm, 9031-3859 Quebec Inc., pleaded guilty in Belleville provincial court on July 10 for not cleaning up the fuel after one of its leased trucks crashed into a passenger vehicle in the westbound lane of Highway 401 on March 23, 2005. As a result of the collision, the tractor-trailer's fuel tank was punctured and about 100 litres of diesel spilled onto the gravel shoulder. At the time, there was concern that the spill could contaminate a nearby ditch if it rained before the fuel was cleaned up. The court heard last week that Ministry of the Environment officials contacted the company three times in the days immediately after the crash about its obligation to clean up the spill site and remove the contaminated gravel. | the whig article-continues |
