Roam Mobile uses tmobile for a carrier....are they any good? Am currently using Telus in Alberta and they have good coverage in the bush. Best coverage you can get, arguably

My phone saga keeps going on. I broke my head set on the last trip and my current phone and truck don't get a long. I did get a free IPhone 5 that had a broken screen. I got that fixed in the neighbor town for about $100.00 with warranty and so on. Great guy that works on phones and computers. Now I just have to figure out who's sim card to get to put into it. Verizon uses old technology where you have to go and activate the sim card and register it to the phone and I have to go to a corporate store to get the SIM card. What a pita.

Here is a thought. I am thinking about using the Iphone for calling and texting all over and with a hot spot for the US and Alaska data on my current Verizon plan and than use my jetpack with a Canadian carrier for internet if they allowed me to bring my own device. I will have to figure out if Verizon would want to ding me for taking the jetpack of their plan. This cell phone business has to be the most frustrating part of trucking to me. I wish I could just get rid of all of it, but the girl friend and company wont have none of that. :biggrin_25519:

Just got some dirt on a Telus plan. Small business north america 150. 150 bucks and you get 2gb unlimited everything else including vm 10 conference call and text away as well (not while driving thats nuts) UNLIMITED MINUTES from anywhere in n america to anywhere else in n america. No video or picture text from the u.s. tho...not a deal breaker...email it. Must be registered to a company with an incorporation date and adress.....works for me. They are only open business hours but I can live with that 18665582273. Looking for a downside...maybe that the people in the us can't phone me back for free but that's not a big deal. Only carry one phone! I"m so happy I could sit

I have decided to go with straight talk. $60 a month. Everything unlimited included calling back to canada. Getting my iPhone unlocked and buying the SIM card at Walmart and order the dual sim adaptor on line so I can just use one phone. See if this works I guess???

For Canada I use koodo for $55.00/month I get unlimited calling in Canada 24/7 and 2gb of data every month which is plenty for me. When I got to the states I use a net10 pay as you go phone. I use $45.00 card which gives me 600 minutes and that lasts me about 2 to 3 months. I don't use data in the states though. Net10 has an unlimited voice and data option that will allow you to call into Canada from the states and call anywhere in the states for $65.00/ per month. I find there coverage is excellent. Also with koodo and net10 you are not locked into any contracts.

We are based in southern Ontario and run into NY, PA, CT, VT, NY, MD, DE quite a bit. We have 6 phones and a Verizon plan that allows us 5000 minutes anytime, anywhere in Canada or USA. No roaming no long distance. 1000 texts/month for $10. The plan is no longer available and they have replaced it with a cheaper plan that only allows 1000 Canadian minutes.

Coverage is WAY, WAY better than when we had Bell or Telus. We are paying $550/month for 6 phones vs $1200 - $1300 with Bell and Telus. I don't use the data much....usually just turn it off while in Canada or yes that would break the bank. Mostly I use WI-FI hot spots while in Canada which is perhaps not readily available along your remote routes.
