I have a couple questions to the experienced truckers, that are all around ontario. Is it unrealistic, to want to work flat bed working my way up to oversized loads? Why do I have to have 2-3 years of otr experience to haul a flat bed?.... I don't have any interest in hauling containers, or vans. I love challenges, but I cant seem to get a company that is willing to take the time to train someone that is interested in flatbed and oversized loads. I believe I have the capability of hauling either, and I'm not having the straight out of school ####iness. I want to learn and I am capable of learning the trade. But why wont anyone give a New Driver a chance?

Anyways My Name Is Ed. I really need a job, and if it comes down to it ill haul vans. Does anyone know if there is companies that will hire New Drivers and train them on flatbeds.

Any input would be appreciated. Ive called and called and called company's and I'm Just having bad Luck.

    Thanks In Advance.

    Ed

Just Wanted to add I am fast card Certified.

Hello Ed! Are you incorporated?I do work with several owner operators in Montreal and I could ask if they would be interested in hiring you. Do you have experience as single and/or team?

Keep your head up and keep applying and meeting people. Everyones been in your boots at one point. You MAY have to do vans(or something else you're not all that interested in) in getting a few miles under your belt before you move up to something a little more interesting. The problem I see with getting on a flat bed company right out of school is most places are 3,4,5 legger trailers so they haul some weight and want to have someone who knows how to handle it. With that being said, there are still plenty of tandem axle flats out there too! Keep trying driver!

Call Kara Kett from Contrans Flatbed. They have a mentor program. They will train you on every aspect of the job. Large company, very busy. I was with them for a while but wanted better hometime. They do alot of drywall, but also anything flatbed. Trucks are no more than 3 years old and you can take them home. http://www.contransflatbedgroup.com/employment/mentorship-program/

If you want to sea lot of your little girl and need some miles, try GFS or Sysco Foods. Lot's of hours, good hourly pay, home every night. Pepsi in Kngston is always looking, same thing.
