    Rudester.

I understand you want experience because you're a new driver but always remember that your license is valuable and don't let anyone convince you otherwise.

    Good luck out there.

    Rudester and Tam_Tam Thank this.

Latest conversation says that they will pay a "training wage" which will basically cover the cost of getting there and food, for 2 weeks. After 10 days mentoring, they will test me and then put me in a truck if I make the grade. Then it's paid by the load like everyone else.

Seems reasonable to me. What do you guys think?

If your from Alberta : provided you went to a reputable school there are many more jobs out there why not Bison they will train you for 8 weeks along with paying you $500.00 per week . look on the internet Buddy there are tons of entry level job in the west if you want to go to a camp go to the oilfeilds they will fill you pockets with $$$$ .. Good Luck

I've gotten lots of stupid experience in my short driving career so far and I still don't think I've got the balls to pull sticks in the bush around here..let alone in AB!! That to me is NOT a job for a rookie!

As others have said, it's YOUR license. YOU worked for it, YOU paid for it. Now get someone to pay YOU to drive for them. My first first driving job I got paid like 80-100 bucks a day for 2-3 days(can't quite remember) to see if I could catch on and if I knew how to drive(heavy duty wreckers and flat beds) and I won the bosses confidence and have grown in experience since then.

I would try to get on with a company that will teach you things, not just ride along with you.

    Tam_Tam Thanks this.

Thanks for that. I've been looking on the internet. I have seen lots of listings...all looking for experienced drivers. I don't have any experience yet. I want a camp job earning good money. I'll do whatever I have to do to get some experience to get that job. If somebody will train me right out of the gate, I'll do that. I do know that I'm not terribly interested in long haul driving. I'd like to be a picker operator, coil tubing operator, something like that... a little more than just driving.

Log hauling is a tough go and is usually something you work into after some experience. In the end if you have someone willing to give you a chance take it. $70 a day is better than a kick in the nuts and hopefully it will get better ( if it doesn't walk away) if you can get some solid experience hauling logs you should have no trouble adapting to anything else . Good luck and remember for every mile of road there's two miles of ditch.

Pretty much how I see it too. I could buy a truck and go out to Alta and look for a job in Red Deer, Grande Praire, Nisku etc, and pay for food, lodging and gas and it could take a while to get on as new guy with no experience....OR ....take a bus to Grasslands Alta, have someone pick me up and take me to the camp, work for a couple of weeks and then make a decision from there. I won't have lost anything and I have my foot in the door somewhere. I think it's easier to find a job if you have one than if you don't.

I'm already away from home while I'm here. Everything I own is in Thailand. Wife, kids, house (2) cars, motorcycles, farm, it goes on....I've come here for the sole purpose of earning cash. I'm anxious to get on with it. The less money I have to spend to get a job, the better. I'm already in pretty deep in getting here and getting a class one.

Thanks for your replies guys. I think I am going to look at this as an opportunity and keep my eyes open for better ones along the way until I get what I want.

    Cheers
