    Hey everybody,

I need some advice on straps, racks, chains, booms, tarps, hooks, anything else required to purchase for flatbed work as a hired power unit.
I'm looking for info on quantities, types, where to purchase, estimated costs. These are broker owned decks so I don't want to affix anything/purchase items made for deck mounting.
    Much obliged,
    Tami

Ps. Commodity looks to be regular variety: heavy equipment, stacks, racks, wood, metal and sacks of powdered ore, totes of chemicals.

I always carry about 30 straps, some ratchet ones small and big and lots of corners. For chains 3/8 I'm guess would be plenty for regular deck work like your talking. I think I have about 8 or 10... For binders I prefer the yellow folding handle ones. Storage for everything you need is always hard and it always seems like I'm adding stuff for flatbedding lol hope you have a good headache rack too!!

Hey Nate, I really appreciate that. I underestimated straps at about half of what you suggested. Looking into a headache rack soon because it seems necessary. Do you tarp? Is there a good place to buy these things?
Somebody told me $70- per strap. It's going to be a hit at first, me thinks.

It's def a hit... Just chains and binders are expensive enough. That's why the corners are good. Protect those expensive straps. And yes a headache rack is a must. Get a good one though that has lots of storage. Sorry I don't tarp. To much work for me! LOL

Also I say 30 straps because I always over secure lol I've thrown straps for almost every ratchet on a trailer before. Plus you damage some so you need spares.

Gotcha, sounds good. Will be putting out resumes saying 'will drive for straps' :p
I went looking at the headache racks (computer looking) and those cabinet style racks are pretty slick! (so's the price on them, too, though. I'm more in the position of the Kijiji rural-farmer-advertised 'just need polishing' ones for $200, right now).

I can't wait to get out and do more prep, etc. I tell you 90% pin to pin is a killer... You learn nothing and you forget you have legs. I feel like every day I'm getting closer to turning into Grimace from Ronald McDonald's crew of friends.

I'm looking forward to staring at my Load Securement Handbook and swearing because I can't find the page with the part that I need!

if you shop around you can sometimes find deals on 4"straps. some times there are sets of rigging on kijiji, but you need to make sure the tags are somewhat readable. 4 or more movable 4'' strap winches can be a job saver. Make sure the chains and hooks are G70. if you can find an enclosed headache rack your rigging stays cleaner and disappears less, a strap wrapper is a good idea too, don't forget a winch wrench

There are some pieces I saw today for sale and wasn't sure how to tell if they were worth buying. Thanks.

Tam Tam,check the truck dealers parts, i see the 30' straps at about 10-12 bucks all the time. Also get yourself two 40' for belly wrapping, coil bunks are fairly inexpensive, and you may find small cable style binder locks are really handy ,one for each cinch {boomer}.
