We have 2 brits where im at. He ran knuckle picker before he came here. Went through all the training, got his class 1 and journeyman boom truck operator. Now hes running a 20t knuckle. The other one is swamping on a 45t picker truck. Both are thriving in Albertas economy.

Speaking as an Expat also, make your way to Alberta and look for regional work. Most trucking companies here in AB are very familiar with how to employ a foreign worker and will help you get an LMO leading the PRV status. The concrete trucks here in Calgary are all paying $30+ an hour and time /half after 8hrs, plus you will see those kids grow up every day. I left the UK some years ago, headed for the east coast of Canada and spent years OTR. It wasn't until heading west that I finally got that regional day job that pays well. The downsides are house prices, but the upside is lots of money and life.I am not sure which part of Canada you will decide on but the east coast(Maritimes) has very limited opportunities and the employers there know it. Pay is still very low for the most part.
Alberta's economy is booming and as such you can either get on the train or watch it go by.
