After a full career of serving my country, I'm buying a truck!

    Hi all

I've been a p/t CDL driver for the past 20 ish years, with experience in bulk tanker, reefer to Cali, equipment lowboy, and livestock hauling.

I've been out looking at some new trucks, and am really liking the Pete 587. Although the 389 is my favourite and have lots of miles driving them, fuel economy is top on the importance list. I also really like the Freightliner Coronado with the Detroit. An amazing engine on a good looking rig.

I'm looking for some solid recommendations on contracting out to a good company that (obviously) is going to pay top rate for top owner operators. I'm near the lower mainland in BC, and am looking to do BC, AB and willing to run south to CA. Am also not opposed to relocating to Alberta for the right opportunity, or the US. I spent a couple years up north, and although it's unreasonably cold, the massive blue sky is awesome. South is better. . . :)

I'll be looking for a driver for 3/4 full time job, doing 2 runs back to back, then one off. I'm open to working around different schedules.

I've been snooping around this forum for a while, and love it! There's some great info here for anyone looking to get into this profession.

Any and all suggestions are welcome!

    Stay safe

Try can am west, libra transport, tenold, valley roadways, triton transport. Good luck in your search! I'm a kenworth fan myself but I do love the looks of a flat top Pete!

Thx man, yeah the flat tops are so classic. I'm just looking at fuel mileage as a factor for going a little more streamlined. I've been offered 1.95 p/m so far, pin to pin. I'm looking to push through the $2+ mark before I sign anything. I've seen a few you've mentioned on the road.

How about a tank company? Any word on Northwest in Langley? I've heard they're an excellent company

To be honest I don't know much about tank companies. I know trimac had a funny pay scale from what a friend told me when he was looking for a company to put his truck on with. My friends dad is on with tenold for deck work and loves it. Stay away from shadow lines and anything to do with them!

Were you in the armed forces?

Either that, or he worked in a cafeteria on Parliament Hill.

They melt, don't smoke in them, too much plastic.

Ha ha! That's some funny ###### there! I looked at a new one today, and found exactly that. A lot of plastic cover finishing. I noticed the same in the Coronado.

The 75th anniversary Pete 579 looks pretty nice.
