    Hi all

Im in the process of going to trucking school here in ontario. I am 47 years old, drug free, rarely drink and i have always had the want to be a trucker. i am a unemployed cnc machinist and finding decent work here has been difficult. I hear the money is good out west and i am very interested. I have a wife in Ontario and no kids. I would like to work out there seasonal or 4 to 8 weeks at a time and come home to the wife on my time off. And who knows mayby even move out there if the situation is good. If there are any employers interested please pm me or respond to this thread. Any truckers with advise please do so. Your help is appreciated.

    I say "Go west"

As a new driver in Ontario you will be lucky to find a job that pays you enough to live off of.
Especially being a newly minted driver, companies will talk about "paying your dues" which translates into "work for whatever we're willing to pay you".

Going out west should even be better money than what Ontario highway companies are offering.

You mught also find that there could be a machinists position open somewhere that could even pay better than driving.

Unless you have a union job......Ontario is a joke when it comes to wages in trucking.

In the same boat (in trucking school now) - I'll be ready to go in about a month. Also looking to head west. Prairie Boy has some good recommendations as he's out in Alberta (I think)

There is a ton of work out west, from manitoba all the way to the coast. But make sure to do your homework! Housing can be a big issue. Just make sure your not just looking at the dollar signs and get blinded by them.

no not a journey man machinist. I was was working at a place for 17 years running one of a kind machines, i was then layed off. so in order to stay in my industry i would have to get my papers and get certified which would take 4 years. I have always had a fondness for trucking so i want to get into trucking.

Maybe Nate can help you better than me. He was new a few years ago and has experience in finding positions with a new license.

Once you have a little experience........call Pioneer truck lines..... pretty much the best. Hell......call them now and ask them whi can you work for to gain specific experience in running flatbeds so you can come work for them in the future.
I have family that works for endbridge and am told they "have their act together".
    Good luck.
