    I'm looking at getting into trucking as an owner operator/broker.
    I was just wondering if any of you could help with my question:
    Which "branch" of trucking is most profitable as an owner operator? Car carrier, tanker, flatbed,etc...?
    I'm in Ontario and looking to stay local, no really long hauls preferably.


    Pls let me know what you guys think or know from personal experience.

    If you've never drove before, be a company driver first. Hauling only Ontario is possible, just may not be as profitable. I have found multi axle steel pays well. Some tanker pays well.

    I've been thinking of getting a straight truck for starters and do ON to New Brunswick or Manitoba runs on UShip or something like that.
    As for trucking thanks for the advice. I've heard the same. I've also heard some good things about car hauling or cement.. I guess it all comes down to each individual and how much work they're willing to put in.

    Local brokers in Ontario are getting around the$33/hr mark.

    Deliver pizzas with your car, it pays better.

    Only cross border long haul pays in Ontario for brokers.

    Although it is getting tougher to find, this statement is a wee bit off. Van load only, just docks then yes, money is hard to get. If you're willing to run a two-wheeler then there is quite a bit of money available, but the crappy part is it will likely be a dedicated route (you find your own staff to cover your time off) and you have to be FULLY independent (CVOR, plate, insurances for both liability and cargo). There are guys grossing well over 200K on 4 day a week jobs, and out of that they'll see a 1800 a week income, but you'll earn it.
