Grande Prairie is one of my preferences should I move out west to work the oil fields, which is my primary goal. I've had my AZ for a week and a half.

Does anyone have experience living/working from Grande Prairie? What advice do you have based on your experience.

Also, what other areas are popular in AB or SK?

    As always...comments are much appreciated.

Thanks Sarabeara...just waiting for a recruiting firm to get back to me with opportunities with companies they deal with. If I can't get anything going before the end of October, I'm planning on taking a trip out to GP.

Does it really work to just walk in off the street as a newbie driver?

I've got a bunch of friends that work up there. They said there's hiring signs out everywhere.

Why would anyones goal be to get out to the oilfields?

You should save the oilfields for when you've extinguished all other options and have no choice but to go up to that baron wasteland.

Why does everyone think Alberta's a baron wasteland lol... It's booming, lotsa nice places to live. I feel sad when I tell people what I paid for my condo in bc and people in Alberta tell me they bought a house for that. I'm starting to like my time off on chunks of weeks, not 2 day weekends that always go by so fast!

You must not like money orcen lol

I'm quite content bringing in around $15-20k a month to the truck and not having to deal with sub zero weather... or worrying if my wife is sleeping around while i'm at work because she's unhappy and thinks the same thing about the patch as I do :)

You won't last up there Nate buddy, unless your criminal record is longer than Prairie Boys resume and you have no choice other than to stay up there to earn, I can bet you'll be back here on the Mainland in another year or two.
