    Hi all,

Name is Mike, a 27 year old from the Etobicoke area. I, like many others on this site am interested in getting my AZ license. My old man has been a driver for around 12 years now and it's been on my mind ever since. I have heard this "might" be a good time to get into the industry.

Been looking at schools and tri-county is a choice as it's a well accredited school. However I have heard great things to Richards Truck Training school which is only 10 Mins away from my house. I know Richards is much cheaper so worried it would be as great.

Have been in contact with some companies just to get some info and Kriska seems like a great company to get experience with. I probably wouldn't pull the trigger until the spring to avoid starting out in the winter. I understand pay wouldn't be too great but I work in a $12/h full time job that I am absolutely sick of now and need a change.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, would love any advise.
    Cheers

Just make sure the driving school is accredited and trucking companies will accept them.

Once you start driving you will be rich beyond you wildest dreams and all the chicks will want you!

Hasn't been a good time since January 1, 1990 when Deregulation took effect under the Motor Vehicle Transport Act (1989) Canada.

Do you have any companies in mind that you want to apply to?

If so, contact them before you apply to school to find out their requirements, and what schools they will accept new hires from. No point in getting training from X if Y won't accept it.

Yeah I know fully aware of that

I find that it probably better going to a ttsao accredited school. Have the best chance of finding a job. There are also a few schools nearby that Im trying to get in contact with to see if they have companies in partnership.

Well if you are making 12 p/hr now...you shouldn't notice the pay decrease.

Sure is a lot of negativity and sarcasm on this forum. Look I know it's a falling industry but I believe you look in the right place, I decent living can be made. It's not all about the money, either. Having benefits, seeing North America, being your own boss in a sense.... These are the kinda things I put into my thought process.

Go to an accredited school. That will give you a 1 year certificate which the insurance companies like to see and will make it easier getting your first job. The demand for drivers right now is very high and Kriska seems to be a good company to work for. I see their drivers frequently in the lanes I run and they generally seem to be happy working there.
