Hi Iugnutluke, I'm from Ontario and thinking of coming out there. What's it like driving tanker on the off roads? Is it as treacherous as many make it out to be? Secondly what are the job prospects out there like, at this time? I'm looking to come out in about a couple of weeks and have no safety tickets yet.
your responses is much appreciated. -
Do you have any experience hauling fluids?
Depends where you are hauling. Around GP and northern BC, YES the patch roads can be a ##### at times! Just have to take your time and hope your good at throwing some jewelry on.
Jobs are everywhere, key is getting out here and knocking on some doors.
Definitely get your safety tickets before applying though. H2S and first aid (alberta/BC) are required everywhere but it wouldn't hurt to get PST or CSTS, GODI, or a driver improvement course to take a few demerits off your abstract. -
thanks for the reply! Have 12 years driving in Ontario, city experience. That was 7 years ago. Took an office job. No Fluids, basically dry and reefer trailers with some chemicals.
A lot of people say get those tickets when you get up to Grande Prairie? They say, we will have to redo them anyways. They probably have courses in
Ontario for those i guess? I'd be happy to take them if it would land me something good. What do you think Iugnutluke? -
Basically looking for someones advice that has done it and is doing it presently. Your from Ontario right?
-
I guess the market for drivers has changed? Seems like it changes quickly. It probably has to do with the number of applications companies are receiving and the price of oil at any given period of time. Also probably the seasons as well.
How long does it take to get through all those courses you've given me advice on? -
-
As to types of jobs...am I wrong to look for primarily driving jobs or should it be expected that you're really only driving 10-20% of the time as a newbie? -
read the thread on alberta oilpatch jobs. everything you need to know is there. -
I'm looking for a H2SAlive course in the area. I missed one on Nov 1st in Ottawa, which is my preferred location even though I live in the GTA.
