Hey all,
I am about halfway through school and starting to look for jobs. I am based in Niagara, Ontario. What companies will hire a newbie fresh out of school for long haul? I have no reason to be home regularly, and I will be FAST approved next week.
Flatbed, van, don't matter. I just need an idea of where to realistically look.
Thanks all.
Long Haul companies who hire Rookies.

This is the short list I've put together so far. I'm in the say position and just completed my training in October. FAST card came in the mail this past week.
Kriska
Werner
Schneider
Earl L Henderson
Forbes-Hewlett
I created a separate post asking for people's experience, if any, with these companies. I have found some comments on other sites, but they're going back 2 or 3 years and things do change.concdriver Thanks this. -
Yeah, I've only seen mediocre things about Challenger in the forums, but my instructors say they arnt a bad starting point. I already applied at Kriska and Schneider. The problem with Kriska, as trivial as it is, is they are in the process of dropping all their manual trucks. All of em are Auto Volvos. We had a recruiter at school on Monday. They do assign trucks which is a plus though.

A lot of the bigger companies are moving to automatics for fuel savings . I could also see it for driver safety as it would take shifting out of the concentration equation. I learned on a 13-speed and really enjoyed the shifting, not to mention, I found it relatively easy, so my preference would be to drive manual.

arnold over bison.
Bison is the Swift of canada, They have an extensive training program, just be ready to sign on the line for 2 year commitment. the up side is they have so much freight to move they offer canada only, dedicated, truck share, and structured work weeks ( ex. thursday-tuesday open board). in western canada they are like an infestation.
arnold bros has a 6 week type training program with 1 year commitment. following your time with a trainer you are on reduced rate for 6 months (.36/ c .40/us) they generally run singles in the central area. out of Milton, on theres alot of purlator freight moving west along with other local customer. be ready to pull refer and dry van.
I ran for ABT for a 1.5 years did alot of winnipeg down to Iowa then to brampton then refer freight back to winnipeg. usualy out for 5-7 days depending on weather and freight. they have alot of teams running that purolator be prepared to run switches in northern ontario to get back to the peg (much the same with bison)
be avaible and open to your planners. near the end they were looking for some one to pull purolator freight out of hamilton every saturday 0300am back to the peg. it put me in a cycle leaving wensday 0600 back sunday 1500 drop in the yard cause it doesnt deliver till midnight im at home for sunday dinner time. this was with a year exp. on the table. and a FAST CARD.
you may think a fast card is useless but many companies are demanding it. for example that run that i listed above i was able to do becasue General mills is a FAST load. thats right Cherrios and fruit roll ups are FAST loads ONLY. just food for thought.Caluja Thanks this. -
Purolator quit using their own trucks when Arnold's stepped in with low rates to do it cheaper.
