Hello All! I am new here and have been trying to get into the oilfield for a while now, and now have an opportunity to get funded by AlbertaWorks to take the 6 week "Transportation Oil Worker" course through Connections in Medicine Hat. They have over 100 funded students take their course a year, however the only reviews I can find are through their own youtube clip. I have talked to 2 employees at the school and gotten alot of mixed information on whether there is a 6 month contract after the course, whether that needs to be filled in alberta or if you can move for work afterword, if it has to be class 1 or just oilfield ect. If you are allowed more then one drivers test, what circumstances are there for having to pay back the government, if they have had female students... I dont know if there is a disconact between co-workers or if they are trying to "talk" this female out of a truck, or the oilfield. I was also told that there are only 20 in truck hours which scares me, I dont have alot of standard experience and I'm sure the F150 and tractor experience I have is nothing even worth mentioning in comparison. It took me more then 20 hours with a 8 bale wagon to perfect just backing into hay! I am already a young female going into the industry, I don't need to suck too! I was told that if I cant hack the class 1 to just switch to class 3, but the school hasnt been able to tell me if thats an option either. (Not that I would at all be happy doing that) The only person I know of that has taken that course (distant friend of a friend of a ...) is a city bus driver, which makes me hopefull in the array of jobs available and the possibiliest this course could open for me, but having the bad experiences I've had with education funding I want to know more before committing. The mixed information is making me uneasy but I really dont want to pass up a great opportunity because someone mucked up their information. I am going in this week to talk to someone who should know all the ins and outs of the course and the funding but am really hoping to get some feedback from others who know of the course or have taken it.

Thanks guys! and sorry for the super long run on poorly articulated novel!

Connections is a scumbag outfit running equipment that should be in a scrap yard. They are basically a class 1 mill, crankin em out as fast as they can to make a buck. Next best to the illegal hindu schools. If I were you, I would save up the $ n got to a normal school like F&S or Cameron and pay your own way through the course you can customize to your needs. Most of everyone else here had to pay their way, and I think its unfair how these slimy outfits are using taxpayer money to crank out a class 1, even though they can barely get it into gear. Pretty scary things I have seen...
