Where do BULK Trucking Companies get Loads/Contracts from?

    Good Morning,

    I'm a long time lurker, first post and yes, I searched the forums for my question. I live in Lloydminster on the SK side and just got my Class 1. No experience = no job. Not a big deal since I work in an office full time anyway but I do enjoy driving a truck.

    I'm very curious but can anyone fill me in on how bulk carrier companies get thier loads? I mean hauling water, oil, fuel, gas, sand, etc. There are no load boards for bulk in Canada (that I can find anyway) but lots of companies doing this kind of work. Do they contract directly wih the oil majors or go through a broker?

    All right. Lol. It seems to me like it was a fair question, properly articulated, but everybody thinks it's hilarious. I don't know the exact terms Robert, but what I would guess is that these contracts are hammered out between representatives of each company. The customers, would get in contact with the various trucking firms (they know who to contact simply the same way you know where for example to go and get quotes on your car if you need a brake job). There will be a contract agreement drawn up for a either a given time period, or a set volume to be hauled. When that runs out, or before, actually, a new one will be negotiated so that there is no disruption in service. No brokers involved. That's my best guess anyway. Or as another fellow here says. Just a thought!
