Hi, so i have recently acquired a SK class 1A license. I was just wondering, can i drive semis in Alberta on it? Or do i need to transfer it first? And if i were to transfer it, would it transfer straight to the Alberta equivalent, or would i need to do extra testing?
Thanks.

You can drive in Alberta. If you moved to Alberta and took up permanent residence you would have to switch your license to an Alberta one. Im pretty sure you wouldnt have to be retested.
-
No retest but medical is required.

The only reason you'd have to transfer is if you moved to Alberta, but still no retest required. I got my Class 1A in MB and moved to NB with no problems. Otherwise, yes, you can drive a truck in Alberta on a SK license. Or MB, BC, ON, QC, NB, etc. You don't need a different license for every province/state.

I moved from ON to BC and had to write the Class 1 Test, Air Brake test and get a medical done to switch my license over, but I was moving here..
If you're just driving across Canada and your perm residence is in SK you're good to go. -
ok, thanks guys. Currently residence is in SK, but i'm thinking of moving to Alberta to work, so was just making sure i could drive there in the meantime
thanks -
I had 90 days to switch mine over after I moved here, Alberta is probably the same..

[h=3]Exchanging a Canadian Licence[/h]A valid licence from another Canadian jurisdiction can be exchanged for an equivalent class (Classes 1 through 7) of operators licence. Testing is not normally required. A vision screening is required for all classes. A medical is required for Classes 1, 2 and 4 and may also be required for all other classes if the applicant has a medical condition that may affect their ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. Applicants must produce acceptable identification and proof of residency.
