In my experience, loads going west, the skies the limit on the rates. I've taken loads out for over 10 grand. There is a ton of freight going to the oil sands. Freight coming back east is crappy, because there are so many trucks out west looking for freight, load brokers have taken advantage and are paying rock bottom prices to get there loads shipped. I've seen loads posted as low as 1.20/mile. And if you do haul a load out there, be prepared to sit a few days waiting for a load to come back to eastern Canada.

I agree, truck to load ratio is a factor but there should be a min standard / rate that you must get and anything over that is just pure bargain or broker profit
trucking companies may survive at 1.20/mile but is it really worth for an owner oprator hauling for less than 1.50 (including fsc) ??

How are we to know what is worth it to you or not, without knowing your full operation and operating costs. The van loads are paying approx the same as reefer loads, reefer maybe being 500-800 more. The last one I inquired about was yesterday n it was offered to me at $5300 (without my negotiation tactics) from London ON to Calgary AB. That was a heated dry load at 46000 lbs. the freight going east sucks, you can maybe do 4000 on the same lane w/ same freight, but dont expect much more...

I was doing Etobicoke to Calgary last summer with my reefer for $6000-6500 n it was pretty good...but things have changed...

$1.20 at 50 MPH Average amounts to $60.00 and hour. That pays for the fuel. How about the driver and truck payments etc?

    EHB Thanks this.
