I have a friend who is really funny. He was thinking about producing some comedy CD's for the trucking industry.
Obviously selling them in truck stops would be the best way. My question is.. how many truckers if they heard a sample would order them online?
Since truckers are often on the road, would mailing them be an option? How about an instant download? Who has the ability to download and burn these to CD themselves?
What would you pay for a decent comedy CD?
I did some Google searches on his behalf tonight, and it appears that this is something we need more of... But want to hear from real truckers about any suggestions and recommendations before he gets started.
He's thinking for it to be worthwhile is to charge $16.99 for a full hour CD of trucker related comedy (plus $5 shipping). Funny stuff!!
Would people take the time to download the mp3 and burn them to CD themselves? If so, what is the best distribution channel for that? iTunes I suppose?
Any and all discussion is really helpful. Taking all suggestions.
Trucker Comedy, anyone interested?

It'll have to be funny. There's enough free comedy in this industry as it is. Some of the stuff I see on a daily basis keeps me laughing. For free. Either way good luck to your buddy.

We all have sat radio, you're 20 years too late.

I think one of the last truck stop comedians was Katfish. At least one of the last that recorded and sold cassettes in truck stops. But as mentioned above, that's over 20 years ago. Everyone has satellite radio these days ( except me ) or downloads iTunes comedy. Your buddy's best bet is to record some samples and try to sell them to a satellite radio channel or something like that. I have NO idea how that stuff works.

That's a really good idea. But as others mentioned above. There is a lot of free stuff available online. And affordable paid content. Satt is a gold mine of great comedy. Maybe he could put it up on a site and call it, Truckers Comedy Site or Trucker Humour, and offer downloads of comedy clips. if the listener likes what they hear, they can leave a donation. I have a buddy who writes and records his own tunes and does that with his music. He does surprisingly well with monthly donations.

No one will buy it with so much free content out there, Also comedy is subjective, well you might find your friend funny others may think he's annoying. Best bet would be a free podcast, or youtube page, and build a fan base from there. Maybe submit bits or call into popular radio shows like Howard Stern, or Bubba The Love Sponge

I know this is old but I talked to Arnie Hoffman owner and President of Laughing Hyena via Facebook a few year ago. He told me if I wanted to make a cd and send it to him I might get contract with him. It wasn't something I was interested in. He does sell to Spotify, Pandora,etc.... That's also were Jeff Foxworthy and Ron White got there start from...js

In my time Foxworthy I believe was one of the sources of humor among other things.
My brand of comedy has to do with either physics gone really bad combined with human actions and thinking or black humor such as medical stuff. Hardly germane to trucking very much. For example a double amputee was billed a arm and leg for the work done to save his life.... by doctor chops and assisted by nurse knockers. I better stop here before I get thrown out.
There are days I do not associate with society because the moods of being funny is truly dangerous. English is not adequate to explaining that I can take care of killing myself with laughter soon enough. HA.
