US Trucker looking for job in Canada or US but wanting to live in Canada

I'm a student about to graduate from a reputable trucking school in Atlantic City New Jersey, I have a girlfriend in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada and am moving there and nothing is stopping me from doing so... My question is, is where can I work for a company in the USA or in Canada that will take me out of school and allow me to live in Canada? I don't care what the starting pay is because I just wanna get my foot in the door in the industry.. If anyone could please help assist me in any way I'd so greatly appreciate it, I don't care if the company is in Canada and I need to get a work visa, I'm really trying here to find a company that will take me.!!! Thank you all in advance!

Your cdl is worthless up here you will need to turn it in for a class 1 not sure if it will even be an exchange or a start at square one beginning. Good Luck

I expect that Canada recognizes the USA licences, and will convert it without a retest. It seems to me that immigrants who come from countries that drive on the opposite side of the road are the ones that have to take their driving tests again.
I dont see this as being a problem assuming there is a work permit and a job offer on the table.

Just for some tomfoolery , does anyone out there know what kind of hoops a Canadian Driver with a valid Class 1 would have to jump through to work for a company in the US ?

You might try looking into Waste Management.<--(WM Site requires Inernet Explorer) I drove a roll-off truck for them for a year and a half here in Colorado, but I know they're all over the US and Canada. It was actually a very good job, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. They're a great company and the benefits packages they offer are absolutely unbeatable.

You could start with them where you live now and then get the company to transfer you to Winnipeg if they're willing. I would imagine it would be easier this way, but you never know.

i'm thinking of moving to Toronto myself; And the only way i could see it working(because i'm not sure Canada "needs" "immigrants" from the US) is that i would live in Toronto or Missisauga or GTA area and work in Buffalo. It should not be hard to find a local gig in Buffalo.

The problem is that it's a 90 minute drive from Buff to Toronto and that's a long commute. Not to mention border hassles.

In your case, Winnipeg is what 1 hour away from Moorehead/Fargo ND area? You might be able to get a local gig there. Do you need to be home everynight? If not, i feel Fargo is your answer.

If I remember correctly, licenced drivers from South Korea, Japan, the United States, the UK, Australia, and two or three other countries DO NOT have to do any tests for their licences to be exchanged. I read it in my textbook in school, which was published in Houston last year by some company.

Are air tickets no longer required? They used to be required for anything with airbrakes, even off road loaders etc. It was seperate from your drivers licence and required a 40 hour course. I know it was this way in B.C. where I had mine and Alberta.
