An ambitious new truck-driver training program is stuck in second gear at a time of critical shortages of drivers.
Students are being scared away by the 20-week length of Red Deer College's pilot professional driver certificate program and the fact it doesn't include a Class 1 licence, program director Dennis McCarty said.
It has attracted more than 20 students for an upcoming session, the most since the June launch but well below the 100 it can accommodate.
