Frozen Tundra Trucking: Popular trucking show not on thin ice

TORONTO -- Fans of the History Channel's immensely popular TV series on ice-road truckers may be watching an entirely new cast of characters in the second season.


The producers of Ice Road Truckers are so encouraged by the ratings of the show's inaugural season, that they want to start filming a new set of episodes. However, a group of ice-road haulers that agreed to be part of the reality series are getting cold feet about a second go-around, CBC reported in January.
The reality show is supposed to document what life is like for a handful of truckers hauling goods along the frozen Contwoyto seasonal ice road that links Yellowknife with remote mining sites several hundred kilometers away.
But some of the companies claim that the show exaggerates the industry, glorifying the dangers of ice-road driving and depicts professional drivers as cowboys "making a dash for money at a very high risk," according to Tom Hoefer, a spokesman for diamond mine company Diavik. "It's very far, far from the reality of how we operate the road, and so we just didn't see any value in continuing that message," he told CBC, adding that the filming and mounted cameras were creating distractions for drivers.

I run in this neck of the woods year round & the show did not demonstrate at all what it is REALLY like working in these conditions. Last I heard Luna Logistics (they own & maintain the Ice Roads) was very displeased with the depictions in the show & refused to let the History Channel come back this year.

When I am able to post pictures I have a whole host of what the reality of it really is!

I have 13 episodes of the first season of ice road truckers and would love to see the second round my self. We dont get this channel here in canada unless we have satellite to watch it.The channel is different here for cable tv compared to USA.But let us know more on this subject when you get a update Wildkat

You CAN post pictures NOW, but they have to be in the photo section...let's see them, LOL.

I can certainly post them, but it looks to me that they have to be one at a time? I would much prefer to just start a thread & post them a few at a time with proper explainations & place for comment.

I have heard a couple of times now that the show isn't realistic. Can someone that knows, explain what is not realistic and what is?

The show is definitely NOT realistic. They made the work seem much more dangerous than it really is. Yes, it CAN be dangerous, the hours are horrendously long, the weather can be terrible, but on the whole it is as safe as any other job out there.
