| Driving on wrong side of road Trucker accused of driving on wrong side of road at 140 km/h 3/28/08 Toronto Sun, Canada Quote:
A 52-year-old trucker was followed by police more than 26 kilometres through Durham Region before he was found hiding in a cornfield last night, police say.
Durham Regional Police in Clarington were called to Regional Road 57 and Hwy. 2 for a reported hit-and-run involving a tractor trailer in the area around 6 p.m., according to a press release.
Officers found the tractor trailer cruising northbound on Regional Road at more than 140 km/h. Lights and sirens on, police followed the rig for about 6 km, watching as it swerved into the southbound lanes, forcing oncoming traffic off the road, police said.
An unmarked cruiser took over in the pursuit for another 20 km, during which time the truck was seen "operated in a dangerous manner," maintaining more than 140 km/h.
After being followed to McKee Rd. in Scugog, the rig was driven into a cornfield where the driver allegedly fled on foot.
"Officers set up a perimeter around the property and with the assistance of Air1 and K9 the driver was discovered hiding in the field," police said.
Marijuana and an opened bottle of rum were found under the driver's seat, police said.
William Rozema of no fixed address was charged with impaired operation, exceed .08, dangerous operation, flight from police, fail to remain at the scene of an accident, drive while disqualified, open liquor readily available to driver and possession of marijuana.
The driver of the vehicle slammed by the tractor trailer was not injured. http://torontosun.com/News/TorontoAn...8/5133201.html | |
