| Speed doesnt kill people....its the accident that does. what they are proposing is a "tiered" limit system which will have 2 different speed limits. Now we all know that 4 wheelers cannot stay behind the majority of trucks when we are doing the same speed limit as they have, now just think what things will be like if all of a sudden we are FORCED to run at 10 mph slower then them! They will move heaven and earth to get around us and back up to an acceptable speed. What this means is they will gamble with their lives, our lives, and the people in the oncoming lanes live to get past us. Once again when time after time you read about deaths involving head on collisions while passing trucks we will be to blame ![]() Just in case it is not obvious, I am 100% against it! |

Absolutely correct. The 4 wheelers need governed too.

| The OPP have totaly failed at enforcing speed limits and aggressive driving, so the MTO comes out with this bright idea. Too bad they didn't wait Transport Canada report that stated limiting trucks in areas with heavy traffic will increase the number of accidents. ![]() Quote:

| Ontario has no clue on laws and how to enforce them. Read a story in Readers Digest where the writers tested the "enforcing" of speed limits. The limit was 100kph. Everyone was doing at least 120. The writers were doing the 100km "limit", and got pulled over by the police and ticketed for something like obstructing traffic or something like that. Never catch me living in that jerkwater province. Biggest POS.

| I never drive over 65 mph (108kph), but that being said, I am dead set against this legislation. How on earth are they planning to enforce this? Get the OPP to carry ECM interrogators so they can determine if your truck is governed at 105? What about older mechanical engines that don't even HAVE an ECM? As far as I know, this legislation is being challenged on the basis that it violates the NAFTA agreement. I expect it will be overturned. We already have speed limiters... they're called legal speed limits. In my experience, rolling down 401 weekly, speeding trucks are not the problem. Speeding 4-wheelers ARE.

| It is simply a stupid idea. Never mind the fact that by being able to disable the limiter at will it's no more effective than a speed limit anyway. I mean really, leaving it up to the driver whether or not to activate it is no different than leaving it up to the driver whether or not to obey the speed limit. It's not the 400/401 I'm worried about though. It's all the two lane stretches of hwy 11 and hwy 17 where passing lanes are few and far between. And of course many of the passing lanes are on inclines so the result will be a turtle race up the hill with the lighter truck getting partly passed by the end of the lane. There's one stretch on hwy 11 that goes near 50 miles without a passing lane and not too many straight stretches for a truck to pass another one that's going 1mph slower.
