OOIDA responds to speed limiter legislation

OOIDA responds to speed limiter legislation

7/8/08
Quote:
In response to the Ontario government’s decision to pass a speed limiter bill, the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) will file a formal Notice of Intent challenging the legality of the legislation. The notice will be filed as soon as the new law, which will require heavy trucks operating in the province to be "arbitrarily" speed limited, is officially implemented.

Limiters are set to a speed which can be off, just like computers and speedometers can be off. When a driver figures out his truck is half a mph faster and the truck ahead is a half a mph slower, the slower truck will be passed by the faster truck. The slower truck won't let off to let the other truck by but will floor it to get the load there as fast as possible. The sped at which you can drive safely and courteously, is always less than the speed at which a slow truck is governed, with the exception of very light traffic.
