Question about Canadian HOS

A lot of times I hit the canadian border with between 10 and 11 hours driving time on my log. Its nice to get an extra 2 hour boost to the driving time when I cross into Canada. It lets me get home if I'm coming from Montana. If I'm coming from ND it lets me find supper, a Tim Hortons, and a parking spot for the night! The Co Op in Weyburn is usually where I shut 'er down in those instances.

 

You can come in with a 34-hour reset, but if you run out of hours while up here then you need to take 36. And you're right, they are a bunch of dummies ... I'd love to see them try and argue U.S. HOS in a Canadian court.

 

Fortunately it's easier to not run out of hours up here. Last week I had a quick turn around and was only able to do a 34hr reset. It worked out perfect as I was reset for the U.S. and was able to stay within the 70/7 while in Canada but wouldn't have been OK for the 70/8 I have to follow while south of the border. The audit guys will have fun with that one.

I was under the impression that team drivers can split there off duty time up anyhow they see fit as long as they get 10 hrs off in 24 hrs from the start of there shift . But if you dont have a co driver you need to at-least have 8 consecutive hrs in a row off duty plus 2 hrs as you see fit off duty to reset your day.
I love the oil patch for this (not) Im a coil tuber so we can drive all day to location spot and rig in , jump in a pick up drive to a camp or usually a hotel 2 hrs away eat ,shower, then sleep for a few hours get up go work for 20-36 hrs straight jump in a pick up drive 2 hrs to a motel sleep for 5 hrs get up and eat jump in the pickup drive to location and be reset to drive and be leagle so they say because there is no law that states how many hours you can work if you do not drive. And since it is a salary job the company says were off duty until we reach the oil lease.
Now I'm not forced to drive if i feel tired but in the patch you better suck it up buttercup or you wont last very long .
And the funny thing is the company i work for Has a 2 week driving course all new hires must take half is on being the safest driver out there on the road, and the other half was on manipulating the hos to work in your favor.

 

some canadian rules not enforced for us drivers
such as:
schedue 1
odometer start/end
truck/trailer plates in logbook and insp report.

 

Just follow (respect?) the rules of whatever country you happen to be in.
