I thought everyone had them? Tad radio sold at Central Interior Communications, Prince George. If not all you need is a relative or friend in the States and they can ship you one as a gift. One guy I know in Vancouver has a mailbox in Bellingham and buys online, picks up his stuff in Bellingham and drives it home. Claims it at the border and no problems. Border guards don't care if you buy a radio for your truck in the states.

You can't buy an "un locked" radio in Canada, that's illegal. You may be able to buy one privately, but don't get caught with it. And unless you are a programming wizard, there are programs out there, but they are not very good, so you'll have to take it somewhere to be programmed. Then it will be locked. -
Does anybody know how to get an Icom to search? My old Motorola tube radio started smoking one day and hasn't worked since. I think the smoke was its funeral pyre. Got this Icom but it is too technical for me.
It used to be to get a companies crystal put in to get access to their frequencies you had to have a letter of authorization on that companies letterhead but nobody seems to worry anymore.
Been trading with Central Interior Communications for decades. Always a good experience. -

thanks wilkat -
I purchased a ICOM V8000 VHF off ebay out of the states, it is unlocked and can be easily programmed with the instructions that it comes with.

I have that same radio. I like it alot, though it has way more features than I could ever use. Nice snag.

Thats called a HAM radio, and from factory its only good for ham frequencies but all you do to unlock it is remove one diode then its unlocked but just so you know if you get caught transmitting on that radio without a ham licence or out of the ham band the fine is around 11,000 dollars per day you transmit and make sure you have a good maxrad antenna with a high gain because that radio is not designed to operate at the higher or lower frequencies and u may burn out the radio.
