In Canada, you are correct. In the U.S., CAPE is likely correct; since he did make it obvious he is an American. I am aware of the same issues in the U.S. as he posted.

Certainly, human nature being what it is. However, be aware that the RCMP does sporadically monitor the LAD frequencies and will respond to any complaints regarding the use of radio communications whereby possible illegal activity may be taking place: contraband, illegal alien transporting, etc. See this link: http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?aid=7336

By the way, LAD (not LADD) is a buzzword for Logging Administration. The aforementioned LAD frequencies are licensed to legitimately authorized users by Industry Canada.

Please take note that Canadian drivers crossing the country who may be tempted to use their LAD frequencies while in other provinces, do so at their own risk as they may cause interference to other licensees in those provinces. Just listen first before talking to your buddy behind you.

A case in point: 173.370 MHz (LAD 4) is licensed to Champlain Taxi in the Montreal area. You don't want to step on their dispatchers.

    Drive and talk safely. :)

Here in BC it should be legal and mandatory to program your own radio especially when it comes to off highway road frequencies. I've lost count the amount of times I've met someone on a bush road without having the proper radio channel programmed.

Just take your radio in and tell them to program it with (company name)'s channel list.

I work for a very small company without a channel list so I said this company name I worked for before and I got 3 banks (397 channels) including all the new BC RR channels, it's just that easy.

I run the Tad M10 and a Icom for a backup, between the 2 I pretty much have every freq for BC and Alberta. I also know how to program both so Im covered. There's been lots of times when I went to start up a off highway road and there's some guy at the bottom asking what the frequency is, and that he doesnt have the channel. The buckinghorse use to be like this, and the nearest radio shop is 2 hours away.

    (I ment 297 channels)

There are A LOT of roads in BC that you really need a radio in the winter or on rain days.

Just calling your km isn't enough if you don't know the road, if the road looks muddy, narrow or icy, ask the truck coming at you if they want you to wait or meet at a certain point.

Sometimes trucks need to hit a corner hard to run a hill or climb the hill on the wrong side etc.

    Dragon88 Thanks this.
