I've just recently picked up a VHF after returning to the drivers seat from a 4 year hiatus. I've been searching the web for frequencies and all I can find is Ladd 1-4. I know I used to have a list with Polar, Kicker, and a bunch of other frequencies but I misplaced it. Can anyone tell me where I can find a list of the common channels used in BC and Alberta?

Since it's illegal to program your radio yourself...when you take it in to get the radio programmed, simply ask the store where you bought it to program in what is known as the 10 "common truckers channels".

Most of us use either LADD1 or LADD2. Then you can add POLAR1 & POLAR2. Most other channels are "owned" by one company or another for either private roads or logging, for those you require the permission of the company to have them programmed.

The radio I bought is self programmable. As far as legalities many things in this world are "illegal" arent they, such as smoking in public places and riding a bicycle without a helmet? lol. I know the channels, ladd 1-2, plateau, polar, kicker. I was just looking for the frequencies.
    Thanks for the reply.

That's all well & good Knoxville...just best to make it so you can hide it from the "thought police" in BC! The Nazi's at the scales in BC have been known to check your radio to "see" if it is "self" programmable or not, if it is...they will confiscate it! Also they check to make sure you have a license for it as well!

As far as a website listing channels, I've never seen one. Just a book of them in the local shop I bring my radio to when I need channels added to mine.

really? I've never heard of them checking. Never checked mine or anyone else I know, there too busy looking for the dump truck drivers running around without brakes lately. Well that's out in the lower mainland area for the most part.

I've had mine checked over the years several times...but I don't get to the lower end of BC anymore, but I do remember a few years ago they had a big blitz on checking, alot of guys I know lost their radios over it.

Anyway Knoxville if you want to pm me, I poked an old friend for a list & he emailed it to me, it's in Excel, so if you need it in some other format let me know.

The 3 day safety blitz in June around Hope BC could have the CRTC sitting there at one of the scales along with the smog truck and the drug testing van. In many cases if you can remove the mike so the radio is labeled as a scanner. If you can't remove the mike just stop before getting there and check over the truck and just unscrew the antenna from the base, or pull the radio for those days.

I got mine totally unlocked out of the States. It's great to be able to listen in on the bear's chatter. Same way it's good to find out in advance how many of the plow guys are actually on the road in the winter.
