My stepdad's new Civic has left a "lemony" taste in his mouth.

Last year my stepdad and mom bought a 2006 Honda Civic LX sedan (they sold my wife and I his 1997 Honda Odyssey that they had planned on trading in). They have put 10,000 miles on it and so far it's needed:

1. The rear suspension and springs replaced to fix a rear end sag.
2. A new transmission pump to fix a transmission whine.
3. A new power steering pump to fix a leak.

My stepdad is a diehard Honda fan. The Odyssey and the 1988 Civic hatch that my mother drives have both been trouble free, only needing occasional replacement of worn out parts. 3 big repairs in 10k miles seems excessive. I told him he probably got a "friday" car with first year jitters.

He's considering trading the car in on a 2007 Civic EX. With only 10k, his Civic still has lots of value left.

If he researches the cars codes, he will be able to find out what day the car was made. I'm not sure if its in the vin# or on another plate but it should be in there. If thats any help.

believe it or not, sometimes the date of manufacture (D.O.M.) is on the repair orders as well. every time i go to get my oil changed, or some other services done, the D.O.M. is listed. mine, was built on a monday, which is just as bad as being built on a friday.........

even if he were to pay off the loan (if he has one), he loses big money trading it in so soon. i think that since all is repaired now, just keep the car. he may still be eligable for any "extended warranty coverage" offered by the dealer/Honda. its costly, but the car could quite concievably last forever now.

They decided to keep their original car at least until the end of the warranty period (3/36k bumper to bumper-5/60k powertrain).

On the flipside my dad has a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI that he bought new that has not experienced any of the "first year gremlins" that tend to plague new VW models. Maybe they got knocked the (blank) out when he got t-boned 6 months ago. Insurance fixed the car up pretty nice.
