[quote=newbiewannadoitright;313389]It's not unusual for companies to shut down for a while this time of year. Gun Manufacturers do it all the time. They've already built what they needed to get through hunting season and christmas. The slow season is comming until spring, when competition shooters start gearing up. Many of them shut down just before Christmas and don't fire up again until a few days after New Years. Production would be slow and somewhat off and on during the holiday season, so why not shut down and let everyone go home. Then after New Years they only work on maintenance, retooling, reorganizing for the next season. They kick off production again in early March. It's a pretty common practice in the manufacturing business. The slowest times for motorcycles is from about November through February. So even though Harley may be in for rough times, I wouldn't be alarmed at a shutdown this time of year.

I still do not get where you all think HD is in for hard times...

300K units at over 12K$ retail is pretty strong...

especially considering they operate on "cash" and not debt like most automakers...

Many significant components on Harleys are made by companies owned by Honda. That's a good thing. Those are the parts that don't break.

Showa and Mikuni are two Honda-owned companies providing parts for Harley.

Another overpriced American company saved by tarrifs.

The cost of my bike tripled in one year, all thanks to Harley...who could not compete on the track or the market place, unless the fix was in.

As far as stocks go they are considered a mature company, not allot of room for growth
Living near many of the plants, and having friends that work there
With the money most of the guys make I am amazed that the bikes don't cost more.
Yes I drive a jap bike but you have to admit Harley makes a great looking bike, and up to just recently had great resale value.
The days of waiting list to get one are almost over.
Allot of the guys are taking there company discounts on a new bike and instead of trying to resell their old bike here they ship the over sea's for top dollar
