I've got a '96 Powerstroke F250, 4WD, Auto, Extended cab. I bought it new, primarly to pull a travel trailer up out of Death Valley Ca several times a year. This truck has just turned 230,000 miles with no major work. I've kept it just like it came off the showroom floor, except for adding the exhaust brake.

About a year ago, I fell into a deal on a '97 F350 dually with the big gas engine in it. It only had 40,000 miles on it and the price was right, so I bought it.

What a difference. The one ton, I am very lucky to get 10 MPH in overall driving, and the trailer towing is just not at all satisfactory. Yeah, it will do it, but not like the Powerstroke.

I've still got the old Stroker and it still gets around 19 MPH in overall driving. But it is about 4 times the truck that gas engine one is.

I've looked at trading into a new or at least newer diesel, but as long as my old one is running strong, I just don't want to spend the money. . .

That sensor went out alot on the 7.3. Some never had a problem. Others would go through a couple each year. I replaced two on my 2002 in the 507000 miles.
Yeah Roadi you are right, the thing would shut down like you killed the switch yourself. You were really lucky if it cranked back too. That was about 30k ago and its running fine now.

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 with the Cummins Turbo Diesel and love it!
Over 100,000 miles on it and it runs like a charm.
though Diesel is more expensive, I do get 20+ mpg on the freeway and it pulls like a champ. The real advantage I think is how long I expect it to last vs a gasoline engine. I think you get up to 5X the life out of it, thus saving you a ton of money.

Who do you deliver for? I was with a company out of Rialto, Ca delivering Fleetwood trls, The company dispatcher was a ######### he acted like he owned my truck and I would either take the trl he wanted me to take or I could just quit.. I quit. I was getting trls going 100 miles # .96 cpm while others were getting northern Ut and others that were over 800 miles. Now I'm getting into hot shot going 800 miles round trip and getting paid by hour. And driving company truck.

I think had his numbers turned around. Diesel on this side of the state today is $3.279, gas is $2.759
$0.48 spread.

Mack don't waste your money on a "NEW" truck. If you shop around you'll be able to find a low mileage used truck for a good $15,000 or even $20,000 less than new.

Compare these results to your new sticker price.
