Feds Warn Ford Owners About 9.6M Recalled Vehicles

Feds Warn Ford Owners About 9.6M Recalled Vehicles
2/28/08
Quote:
WASHINGTON -- The government is warning the owners of about 4.6 million recalled Ford vehicles to immediately bring their cars and trucks into dealerships to disconnect faulty cruise control switch systems that have been linked to engine fires.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued the consumer advisory to the owners of certain Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sport utility vehicles, pickup trucks, vans and passenger cars.

About 9.6 million Ford Motor Co. (: 6.62, +0.02, +0.30%)vehicles have been recalled and about 5 million have been fixed. NHTSA said they have received about 60 complaints of engine fires in the Ford vehicles since August 2007.

A Ford spokesman says they support the action to eliminate the risk of fire.

Just unplug the cruise harness. That's all the dealer will do- then you lose your cruise/speed control. This recall has been going on for years already and the new cruise sensor has now been on backorder for 2+ years with no stock date in sight.

I was lucky to find one of the replacement fuseable links in the junkyard. Wish I had a Can Hear Every Valve Rattle On Long Extended Trips, there were at least 10x the number of those in the junkyard to choose from!

The parts to fix the cruise are 10.56 and they are not back ordered here. I done two just this week for customers of mine.

I've used my cruise control maybe about twice since I bought my Super Duty. My yard is only 7 miles away and the only other time I use it is for tugging the fifth wheel to go camping. Cruise control is a waste in SoCal anyways. People here are in a
