| I am a Ford guy, but I am not impressed with thier choice of diesel engines. I have heard of quite a few ppl that take a ford and put a cummins into it. |

Yes I have. Several infact. And yeah they are fast. But, keep in mind, just because something squawks second doesn't mean it's more powerful. Too many variables in a case like that. |

| i used to work at dodge stealership and a stock new 6.7 are pretty damn powerful and comparing them to my 7.3 on power the 6.7 would bet me. but dodge is having problem with the new turbo on them |

| I had a 95 7.3 Powerstroke but got broadsided by a woman who ran a red light yapping on a cell phone in the rain. She hit me hard enough to push my F250 14 feet sideways with a Ford Ranger. I did have it rebuilt, but it wasn't the same after that. Made a good farm truck, but not a daily driver. The 6.0 I bought to replace it with was a nightmare. The EGR went out on it at around 12,000 miles. They replaced the valve but didn't clean the mess of carbon it left in the intake. The intake looked like you had dumped a bag of Kingsford charcoal in it. This stuff eventually worked it's way to the VGT turbo and caused the vanes to stick, and I suppose was the cause in the loss of engine power undoubtably the valves were a mess and the cyliners galled up from it. In 2.5 years, Ford continued to put EGR valves on it. I believe they put 9 new valves on it but would not consider cleaning up the mess it made. A new valve would last about 2 months before the soot would hopelessly clog it. I took several of them out and soaked them in acetone for a day to clean them up and put them back in. The VGT turbo on this system sucked. When the vanes stuck open creating a lot of boost the engine would blow the boost tubes off it. Closed you couldn't let the clutch out in granny low without stalling it. They (Ford) kept trying to tell me my truck was ok and running fine yet I'd pull into people's driveways and have to put it in 4 low to get back on the highway at times and always had to carry tools to put the dang tubes back on the turbo system. They (Ford) ordered me a new set of boost tubes in May of 2006. By the end of June 2006, they still hadn't managed to come up with the 8" hose and 2 hose clamps meanwhile my truck had been sitting in the driveway waiting for the parts because it had gotten to the point it wouldn't run 2 miles without falling apart. After dragging it around with a tractor in the yard for over a month I called the dealership and told them I wanted the &**$ tube Fed X'd and on my &*$&^ truck by noon tomorrow or else. They told me to kiss their donkey. So I called Ford in Detroit and told them that if necessary I was going to drive to Louisville to the plant and personally pick up a hose to get it back on the road. They said they would call the dealership and get back to me. This was the last week of June. Sherry (Ford Mo Co rep) called back during my lunch hour and left a message which I returned. I got her answering machine that said, "Leave your name and telephone number and we will call you back within 24 hours". 2 days went by and no phone call so I called again. I called after 2 more days. And again after 2 more days. By now, it's into July and my work truck is still sitting while I'm driving the old 95 farm truck with a busted AC in the middle of the summer (which BTW the dealer wouldn't trade for the new one claiming it was too much of a pos). The next week I called and left a message every day. By then, the last week of July, I was beyond mad and called every hour on a Monday. Still nobody called me back. Tuesday I resorted to posting it on several web sites with her name phone number and extension asking people to call her and leave a message for her to return my phone call. They got hundreds of calls in a few hours and the fit hit the shan after that. Some dude called me from Ford Mo Co and the first thing he said was, "We are going to file harassment charges against you for this stunt and have you arrested." My blood pressure boiled over with that statement and I told him, "Please feel free to call our local sheriff or police chief both of which are personal friends of mine and try that. When you get me to court with the local prosecutor and judge who are clients of mine expect me to have an attorney who will gladly represent me in anticipation of the false arrest case he's going to file against Ford Mo Co. All I want is my dang truck fixed. I've patiently waited almost 3 months for an 8" hose and 2 hose clamps from you jokers to get my truck back on the road which BTW isn't going to fix the problem with this pig of an engine until you fork out the money necessary to clean the carbon out of the engine, replace the turbo causing the problem with the hoses and permanently fix this problem." He put me on hold and said he would research my problem and be right back with me. In about 10 minutes he comes back on the phone and says that he's discussed my problem with a diesel mechanic with 30 years experience and knows what my problem is. He proceeded to tell me that I'd put gasoline in my fuel tank. I said it had never happened. He said, "Maybe you wife did it." No, my wife doesn't put gas in her own vehicle much less mine. He says, "Well here's what the mechanic says you have to do. You will have to change the spark plugs and ignition system on you engine to fix it and it may require a new distributor and computer." ![]() ![]() I asked, "How much diesel experience does this mechanic have?" He said, "30 Years." I said, "I want you to send him down to work on my truck. I'm going to rent bleachers and set them up in front of the garage and advertise it as a circus to come watch the Ford Mechanic find the spark plugs and distributor on my diesel engine. I told him he needed to tear that page out of the idiotic script reply book and throw it away because it was complete bull &*$&^. I told him that I wanted Ford to replace my engine with a brand new complete engine, turbo intake, the works and get this dang problem solved. I even offered to allow them to pull the engine out of my 95 F250 install it in the 04 and junk the 95 model. He said that he was considering our conversation harassment again and hung up on me. (yeah, I'm fairly sure I used some language that wouldn't have been the thing to say in front of the preacher.) 2 weeks later I got my boots put back on. The next week, the turbo stuck closed and the truck wouldn't pull out on level ground. I was having to put the transfer case in 4 low to let the clutch out. I even pulled into a different dealership who refused to work on it since it's repair record was what it was and I bought it from another dealer. I stalled it 8 times attempting to leave their parking lot but finally crept it out onto the highway and got it going. I took it back to the dealership for another week of repair. 3 weeks later, the turbo hung again, blew the boots off and broke some cooler off the top of the motor underneath a bunch of garbage on top of the engine. I took it back and they put the boots back on but did not fix the cooler. I did refill the radiator once, wish I hadn't done that. For 2 weeks I ran it on an empty radiator and still couldn't blow the engine to make the repair diagnosis simpler for them. I filled it up again and within a week my driveway looked like a green sea and I decided I had to have it fixed before I killed every dog in the neighborhood and called the dealership. They said, it would be 3 weeks before they could get to it. I took it to them the last week in October. The last Monday in November they called me to tell me it was ready and come get it at lunch. They called again at 11 and said there was a slight problem to wait till this afternoon. I went about 2:30 pm to pick it up and the service manager and diesel mechanic and my truck were out of the shop, "Test driving a vehicle" the owner of the dealership said. 20 minutes later another customer came in and the owner of the dealership said, "They are gone to test drive a brown car." Brown car and my red truck of 2 different things. Where's my truck I began to wonder. After 20 more minutes of waiting, they called me back to an office to explain, "We went to test drive your truck Saturday and it broke down on us. The mechanics have worked on it all morning trying to get it started." I guess it would be too much to assume you'd have long since called for a tow and at least got it back to the shop. I got mad and left. Wednesday at 5 pm they called and said, "It's ready, can you pick it up this evening." Well no, I have plans already, I'll be there tomorrow. I went to pick it up and asked, "What was wrong with it?" They said, the egr cooler was leaking. Yeah, I know, that's what I brought it here to be fixed for in October, What I'm asking is why did you have to call XYZ towing to haul it in for you? How did you know it was towed in? Never mind that, what was wrong with it? It had a dead battery. Before or after you cranked it to death? Well it sitting in the garage a month might have contributed to that. No, you cheap skates wouldn't have paid a tow bill if that's all it was. I inspected the truck and noted that they had jacked the truck up on a lift with the hood up and ran the hood into the ceiling trusses denting the hood. I pointed that fact out. They offered to install a plastic bug deflector to hide it. I picked it up Thursday, didn't drive it Saturday, and Sunday went to Church and mom and dad's for diner. Came out and it wouldn't start. Stuck in dad's driveway blocking his car in his garage. I could tell immediately that they had an air leak in the fuel system somewhere and it was air locked. I assume that's what was wrong with it when they broke down test driving it. That's what the wrecker driver said when I talked to him. Fortunately, my Farm truck was still at Dad's from picking up the truck earlier in the week, so I drug it with a chain away from his garage. Monday morning I called Sherry K (the Ford Mo Co woman I'd previously dealt with). I told her in no uncertain terms that I wanted them to come get that piece of junk and don't tell me it's fixed before they've replaced the engine. She said, "You are now over 36,000 miles and since this is a new problem, you'll have to pay for the tow." That did not set good with me and I explained that the dealership had worked on this truck for a month, and they had the same problem with it when they took it for a test drive before releasing it back to me and it was not a new problem, it was the same problem and I didn't feel like I owed 1 red cent of a new deductible on my warranty or a tow. Further, I wanted it taken to a different dealer and I want it fixed and fixed right so I don't have any more problems with it. Arguing with her was like arguing with a fence post, it wasn't going anywhere. We finally agreed that It would be towed at my expense to Oak Ridge, TN's Ford dealership and that Ford Mo Co would guarantee the repair to be done and no more problems. A week and a half later, I got it back and it ran until Thursday that week before air locking again and quitting on the side of the highway. I was beyond pissed off. I called Sherry again. Yep, I long since figured out how to call her. Don't do it from a phone where they have the number in their caller id blocked. I let her have it standing there on the side of the road and said I wanted it picked up immediately before I got real mad and did something that might hurt someone like shove it through the show room of their dealership. I told her I was going to the parts store a block away to get a case of either and one way or the other this pos is going to start, blow to Kingdom Come I just don't know. She said, "You will have to pay to tow it and we'll work on it again." I proposed an alternate theory on her species and explained so there was no doubt, that her previous guarantee wasn't worth crap. She said, "I'm not real sure that we want people like you driving Ford products." I said, "I'm not, I'm riding around in the cab of a Chevrolet wrecker hauling this pos from place to place because you pieces of excrement won't fix it." Not can't fix it, pure and simple won't. There's no excuse for this BS and treating a 25 year Ford customer this way. She told me it was her way or the highway. Half a can of either later, it started with a big bang and I drove home. The next morning, I eithered it to get to work and at lunch eithered it to get it to the Dodge dealership. For some miracle, it did start when they went to test drive it, and by evening the Ford belonged to them and I had a new Dodge Ram. The Dodge dealership called the next morning and the Ford wouldn't start to move it around to the clean up shop, they asked what to do, and I gave them Sherry's phone number and extension. No, I'll never buy another Ford. Skipper Last edited by MACK E-6; 05.20.2008 at 09.02 PM. Reason: no last names please |
