Chrysler strikes deal with Nissan

Nissan production plant in Canton, MS will no longer be building the line of trucks that are currently offered through Nissan.

Nissan has struck a deal with Chrysler, to have them built in Mexico.

Once retooling at the Canton, MS plant starts. They will start turning out light & medium duty commercial trucks.

Past and current reports in the NY Times state a possible "car" deal. While this may come to light yet. The current deal is for the line of trucks (non-commercial) built at the Canton, MS plant.

That particular deal also has to deal with Cummins Engines as they will be using Cummins Engines.

Does Nissan make any other cars in Canton, or is the whole factory gone?

Got to love it, a "foriegn" car company makes a deal with an "american" comapany, now Americans are taking amercan jobs provided by the japs and shipping them to mexico. If they keep shipping all the good jobs to mexico, who do they think will buy their cars?

They are still building cars in Canton. Not sure how long that will last for. I didn't ask for those details.

I do know they intend to retool for the commercial sector, for sure. All others are still questionable on my part. Because I neglected to ask

I wonder if this will have any effect on Nissan's Smyrna, TN plant.

Not that I'm aware of. But, I'll make it a point to ask. Nothing like having someone who is connected inside

While these changes are being made in MS. They will be having no effect on the current employees. They will all still have a job. Matter of fact, they're still hiring. They'll be increasing some positions.

It's Chrysler who stiffed the UAW employees, not Nissan.

The Canton plant will be changed over to produce a new commercial truck line . The Nissan 1/2 tons will be based on the Dodge Ram like the Mitshubishi Raiders are based on the Dakota . The Cummins diesel will be the new small diesel for 1/2 ton Rams . It is not good to see Chrysler still dealing with Chery . Insiders are hinting at Chery wanting to buy Chrysler to get a network of U.S. dealerships . The truck line could be sold to Nissan . So the "deal" means Nissan shipping grilles to the Dodge plant in Mexico.

Nope, it means they will be assembling these trucks there, not in the US
