When ya can't afford a truck

Quote:
It’s not any real news that full-size pickup trucks are taking a beating in today’s economy. With gas prices over $4 per gallon and the housing market still in a funk, pickup sales are getting worse with each passing month. Here at Compete we’ve been studying the situation and have seen demand for large pickups (F-Series, Silverado, Tundra, etc.) fall to record lows over the past few months. So the question becomes, are large pickup consumers changing their shopping preferences? Are they shopping cars now that pickups are becoming too expensive to own? Are they shopping smaller vehicles like the rest of us?

Peanut Butter will become famous soon enough
I for one wouldnt buy a big full size pickup now unless it has a six cylinder in it, the big V8s are not good on mpg, i have 2 vehicles now older ones with V8s the one isnt to bad on gas after adjusting the mixture screws on the carb back about 4 rounds and the top of the air breather upside down, the other one sucks gas big time so i only drive it when i need it, with gas being as high as it is i would rather have a 4 cylinder or a 6 cylinder, 20 mph to 24 mph is better than 10 or less, our family rig has a V6 and overdrive that gets good mpg so we drive it more.

You can't pull a 30' or longer fifth-wheel trailer with slide-outs with a wimpy 6 cyl engine and at that size I'll stick to the diesels.

Ron, thats precisely why I bougth my F350 crew cab. Nope, not even the diesel, the big v10! Ya I know, real smart! I was just not happy with the 6.0l compared to my old 7.3l, and was disgusted that diesel was more than gas! Now that I never drive it, its for sale. Im actually surprised that i've already gotten two calls on it and one came and drove it. Here's hoping!

It is to bad we cant have our cake and eat it to, a truck, that gets as much per gallon as a small car!!! I bet that someday they will make them like that. It is a nice thought anyway!!!

I have several gas savers:

2003 Ford Expedition 4X4 4.6 Engine
1987 Ford F-150 4X4 4.9 I-6 Engine
1994 Dodge Ram 2500 8.0 V-10 Engine

Drove the V-10 Dodge almost 100 miles today. I do use a 4 cyl. Hyundai Sonata as my daily driver though.

The oil companies love me.

This is the greatest time to buy a big truck, there are some GREAT deals out there. Nothing will ever replace a good pickup.

I for one don't know how anyone who owns a house can get along without a truck let alone a full size truck. I'm sure you all have seen people at the Home Despot tying down loads of plywood, wallboard, or timber on the roofs of their economy cars.

What if you have a large family? Isn't better to have one big vehicle instead driving two little ones?
