Wow that question takes me back....All the way to 1989!!!...I was working three part time jobs while going to high school..I stocked shelves in a local grocery store,..and stocked shelves in a liquor store,..and also wash dishes and bussed tables in a supper club...
I saved and saved for that magical moment when I would be 16 and have the freedom to hit the road all on my own,.And then the day came when I gave a older gentleman a envelope with $250.00 in it and he handed me the keys!!!
That summer day I got to drive home in my very own car,,A blue 1975 Plymouth Grand Furry two door!!!....Oh baby what a car!!! It had a fire breathing 360 V8 under the hood and a HUGE back seat, for um well.....you know...
All I had to then was get plates, pay Dad for the insurance and quit a job to make to time to hit the road with my girlfriend and well, um.....you know..lol...
I never thought I would want to go back to 1989,..until now..

My first car was a '78 Chevy Stepside 4 x 4, root beer brown, and fantastic! I paid every penny myself for that truck. Like everything else, my ex-husband got the truck.

I bought my first car when I was 17 . Paid $75 for a 56 Ford 2 dr. hardtop with a 312 V8 . Bought my own insurance too because Dad didn't want me on his policy . His mistake . He later tried to restrict my driving . We went to the police station . They told him my car , my insurance , he had no say .

I was 14 and I was given a car to drive by my parents so I could take my mother back and forth to chemo, radiation and the herd of doctors she had. My Daddy said I needed to drive so I could take care of her and the house, plus get to school. I was given a hardship license by the state. The car wasn't mine to keep and then my mother bought a small ford truck for me to drive. I loved that truck, it had absolutely no extras, not even a radio. LOL The first one that was truly mine I bought. It was a Ford F-150 candy apple red truck. Back then not many girls drove trucks and I loved that truck even more than the other one.

Hum my first car was a 69 dodge Palara 4door huge car with a bigblock. Could cram in every friend i had at the time. Located the car in the woods at my grandfathers and bought it off of him and the two of us worked to rebuild it and get it back on the road.

One of the best times of my life

I started babysitting at the age of 11. Decided that I didn't like it much, so I mowed lawns instead, from then on out. One lawn was the church lawn, it brought me $90.00 / week, as it was huge and took two days to mow. Every dime that I made went into a savings account, for my first car. At 15 I was allowed to start working at a real job, so then I did both. and at 16 1/2 I walked into the dealership with $2300 cash in my back pocket to pay for my 1973 chevy. Dad helped me pick it out, but he didn't pay a dime on it. I also paid for the plates and gave them the money to add it to their insurance policy for the year.

You were lucky. I paid for the car, plates and had to have a separate insurance policy that cost over 1,000.00 in 1975.

I worked full time and attended school full time.

By the time I was a senior, I had three jobs. I worked weekends admissions at the hospital during the day, nights at the restaurant on the interstate. And during the week, I worked at the local ice cream/pizza place, used to be an A&W. But, I enjoyed each job, and the fact that it kept me busy, too busy to get into trouble.
