I'm embarrassed to admit that I've actually owned two Chevettes. The first one was given to me on my 16th birthday. It was an '83 with the Scooter package. That sucker was luxury, now. Vinyl seats, four speed manual, a hole in the dash for a glove box, AM radio with one speaker in the dash, and that all so powerful 1.6L I-4. I topped out at 98mph with that bad boy. Only took me 7 miles to get there. Six of those miles were downhill. When my stepdad handed that car down to me he said, "It's yours until it tears up or you buy another one." I did everything in my power to tear that car up. Two years later I finally saved enough money to buy my baby, a 1984 Monte Carlo LS with a bored out 327 under the hood. That was a teenager's dream car!

The second one I owned, I paid $50 for it in Florida. Drove it back to Illinois and sold it almost a year later for $500. Only thing I had to do to it was put a starter on it. If you ever get that chance to do that, have someone kick you in the groin instead. It'll be a lot less pain in the long run.

The term "embarrassing" makes me think of a 16, 17 yr old high school dude out cruising around trying to impress the girls
BUT he happens to be driving this!

Good ole powder blue K Car, 4 door no less!
Rock on young man!
Yup, they were definitely a chick magnet. Did you ever see one of those without the trademark blue smoke rolling outta the tailpipe? What an autrocity that car was. But, it did bring Chrysler outta near bankruptcy. Lee Iococa was wise beyond his years.

When I was in the Army, a buddy of mine had a yellow Chevette. We went everywhere in that thing. Called it a poor man's 'vette.

This is true.
