Chrysler rolls out SUV after government scolding
4/8/09
Quote:
NEW YORK – It sounds crazy: Just a week after the White House scolded Chrysler LLC for relying too much on gas guzzlers, the company is heading to a marquee auto show Wednesday to unveil a new SUV.
Chrysler insists the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which clocks in at 20 mpg in its two-wheel-drive version and 19 in four-wheel-drive, is a crowd favorite and a crucial part of its lineup.
"This is a very important vehicle for us. It's one of the primary legs of the Chrysler stool," Chrysler spokesman Rick Deneau said. "Customers have told us they want this vehicle and that it's the right size."

It has been, and continues to be the best selling product Chrysler has. If you a company in trouble how can you justify discontinuing your best selling product? That would be like Nike dropping Tiger Woods right now. The auto companies need to make money. If people are buying something that is not "green" friendly (blaguh!) let them buy it and let Chrysler make some money.

Hell's bells, my wife gets an average of 22 MPG on our 1999 Grand Cherokee. It has the six engine, and 121,000+ miles on it.

While I detest that car, it is miserably uncomfortable to me, and has way too many blind spots, I certainly can't complain about the gas mileage.

You see alot of them on the road....if it's still selling, keep building it. The government can't run their own business properly, let alone a car company.

They didn't build it in a week. So a lot of money and planning went into it. It would be crazy to drop it right before they planned on putting it to market. I

We are ruining the car companies, and WE(the government) caused the problem.

1. Government gave unions the power to DEMAND anything of the employer, making the employer helpless in managing its company.

2. Government legislates the car industry from start to finish, the car companies are not allowed to make what their customers want, they are forced to produce cars that meet government standards. On top of that the govt regulates how many "fuel efficient" vehicles must be produced. If we allowed the car companies to only make what they wanted we would not have this problem.

If I want a fuel efficient car, I buy a honda. If I want a pickup or suv, I would buy american.

Cars

I used to have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and I LOVED it. However, I would NOT buy one again due to all this crap nor would I a vehicle from GM again. I am so mad at all this $$$ going out to them I could bite a nail in two. I would buy a Toyota or Honda though. Screw Chrysler, GM and (somewhat) Ford. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!
