Harley terminates Buell... Officially done with Harley!

Harley officially terminates Buell. Say what you want. but these were very good bikes. I've ridden and raced for a long time, and while they may not take my liter bikes, they sure make the Saturday twisties much more enjoyable.
Here's the kicker. Buell was actually very profitable as a company. Harley is killing them so they can use it as a write-off on their wrecked balance sheet.
I never was a big Harley fan, and have worked directly with that company on more than one occasion. Needless to say, I've never been impressed. But, what they did here was a new low, especially since they will not allow anyone to purchase Buell and continue the brand.
Maybe we'll all get lucky and Harley will follow suit. As much as I'd hate to see those people have to look for work, a lot of jobs have been outsourced anyhow.
Yes, I'm very bitter about this. I'm a long time Buell fan, although I don't currently own one. I've had a couple, and they were great bikes. I've met Erik Buell, and he's a fantastic guy.
I was actually contemplating adding a cruiser to my stable next year. I had my eye on a couple Dynas. Looks like Victory will be getting the business instead.

EAST TROY, Wis. -- (Thursday, October 15, 2009) Buell Motorcycle Company officials thanked the company’s customers, employees and dealers for an unforgettable ride, following today’s announcement by Harley-Davidson, Inc. that it will discontinue the Buell® product line as part of Harley-Davidson’s go-forward business strategy. The new long-term strategy aims to drive Company growth through a focus of efforts and resources on the Harley-Davidson® brand.
“I want to personally thank all our past and present Buell employees, dealers and suppliers for their efforts. I also want to thank Buell motorcycle owners for their support and passion for the brand,” said Buell Motorcycle Company President Jon Flickinger.
Flickinger said a limited number of new Buell motorcycles remain available for sale through authorized dealerships and production will wind down by October 30. He also stressed that Harley-Davidson will provide replacement parts and service through dealerships and that warranty coverage will continue as normal for Buell motorcycles. “I will always be proud of what we have accomplished. It is a testimony to what a small group of passionate and inspired people can do, and with brilliant innovations, we’ve produced some of the best-handling bikes of all time,” said Buell Chairman and Chief Technical Officer Erik Buell. “I personally look forward to exploring how I can continue to work with Harley-Davidson to bring advanced product technology to riders.

That is a shame, buells are/were very nice riding motorbikes. Harley never has had much on competition bikes. (the britts spanked there arse for many years and sent em packin) and though I do respect the history of the company and love the old el flattys and knucks, they have lost their way and become overpriced yuppie midlifer abominations. As a mechanic at our local harley dealer, you have to work sundays and are forbidden to be a smoker (even at home!) I couldnt care less if they were gone.
I was looking at the Uly XT as well. I was actually ready to buy, since they usually drop the prices during winter. However, even with the amazing prices now, I refuse to give my money to Harley.
So, it'll either be a BMW GS or a Moto Guzzi Norge.

Yeah, they are getting rediculous. IMO, they lost their way around the AMF years, and never really got it back. They've done some cool things, but its been overshadowed by their, well, not so cool moves.

other than the V-rod i feel harleys are a waste, overpriced chrome, yesterdays technology, and a pi$$ poor sounding noise maker. Even in the cruisers id probably take a goldwing before a harley. But im also a crotch rocket person so thats my .02
Your friends CBR is running like garbage if it only gets 35mpg. My very highly modified GSXR1100 gets 29 riding like an ######. My wife's GSXR 600 gets 62, and my buddies CBR600 gets mid 50's.
Besides, the Sportster is referenced in h-D country as the anti-Harley. So, its cool to real riders...
