Man Arrested For Driving 150 MPH In Buick

Quote:
A man is behind bars after Grapevine police say they stopped him driving 150 m.p.h.

At about 3 a.m. Friday, police say, an officer was driving on Highway 114 near DFW Airport when a Buick flew past him.

Police say the Buick was going so fast that it took the officer some time to catch up. When he did, he clocked the car going 150 m.p.h.

The speed limit on that stretch of 114 is 60, which would mean the car was driving 2 and a half times the speed limit.

The officer pulled over the Buick and arrested the driver, 37-year-old Ismael Esparza.

Police had the Buick towed. Esparza was still in jail as of noon Friday.

There's no word yet on what model of Buick Esparza was driving.

Well the guy probably didn't speak or read English, so he thought the speed limit was 114, therefore he will get plea bargained for only doing 36 over the limit.

Has to be a Buick Grand National...had one that would hit that speed (it had been tweaked a bit though...V8 turbo instead of the stock V6 turbo)

Mine would do 124 mph in 1/8 of a mile (about 6.24 seconds if I remember right)

Actually the guy was driving a new Buick Enclave. Hard to believe he was doing a true 150 mph. I think he may be the owner or relative of people who own the Esparza restaurants in Grapevine. Cops say they clocked him at about 150. I have a Chrysler 300 that has limiter that kicks in at 117 mph. Still plenty of motor left. I have been told you can override by running emergency flashers and other stuff. Never tried it. 117 was fast enough after 50. lol

I call BS. A Grand National will do that, but just about every Buick since has been limited to 108 or 117.

Hell, even my Grand Prix GTP(same as Bonnie SSEI) are limited at 117 without mod work.

I'd sort of like to know what the cop was driving. In over twenty years in law enforcement I never had a cruiser that would do over 130, flat out. Of course being a county mountie, we really didn't do that much traffic enforcement anyhow.

That's why they didn't hire you for Smokey and the Bandit. I have seen police chases here in DFW where someone had a hot car and the DPS was having trouble keeping up. One time there were 30+ winds and their chopper couldn't keep up. Local news choppers made a line and kind of handed him off when he headed upwind. Got caught and received a few "knowledge bumps" as well as prison time.

Here in Indiana the state trooper cars will run 165mph, counties run 130, and locals where I live will run 130. I bet those unmarked mustangs will go over 165 though.
