    Hi there,

I've been driving with CDL for the past 5 years (semi-truck), reefer and regular and finally decided to start working for myself doing car transportation. I am looking at purchasing RAM 3500 and a 5-car trailer. I know that 3 will be a waste of time and 4 will not work for me either. I am going to drive long distance, 1000-1200 miles or so, and I need 5 car trailer for sure. I wanted to ask for an advice regarding truck/trailer combination. I am pretty sure that RAM 3500 will be the best in its category/price range since it can pull up to 30,000 lb, which will work with 5-car trailer. Which trailer would you recommend for 5 cars? People I know only use Kaufman and I've heard it is not the best quality. Any advice will be highly appreciated!

Skip the pickup, go to a used single axle. Much better driveline , power , torque , brakes( get a jake if you can), and far more comfort . And fuel mileage will be as good , if not better!

I am definitely not going to buy pre-owned truck. You never know what can go wrong and how much you will end up paying for repairs. Have many friends who bought used once and still working to just cover the debt.

You want to put 5 cars behind a one ton pick up & you are worried about repairs to a used single axle truck? Seriously, you just made my day!

Have to ask, when you said reefer experience, did you mean the refrigerated trucking or were you smoking...? Ehhh nevermind.

So everyone else who is pulling 5 cars with a one ton pick up are just crazy suicidal people? Nice. And yes, I am worried about truck repairs. Two recent examples: one friend of mine had his single axle break after 2 months and had to pay 24,000$ for the engine, another one paid 18,000$ in repairs within the first 4 months. And all these money on top of truck payments, insurance, bills, etc. So yes, I want to pull 5 cars with a pick up in order to support my family instead of getting us all in debt with a used single axle truck.

A 5 car is to small, get a air brake system on the pickup and pull a 8 car, you will make more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The ram and manual is the way to go. However, consider the 45 or 5500 if you can. You can put that trailer behind a dually but it will be difficult. A medium duty will work better. Kaufman is the cheapest and pretty popular, but not the best. It will be ok for a first trailer. That's what I'm likely to do. The thing with the five is that it will be difficult to load due deck height. When it comes down to it, get a ram or medium duty with sleeper.
I saw a decent five car on eBay a week ago in Florida and I dont know if it's still there.
