In the past I have bad mouthed them and their practices, but now I have to give them credit for checking.
A women called me from U-Ship verifying my company name, location and MC number, (she gave me the info) I told her that what she had was correct and asked why she was calling (as I never use them).
She asked if I knew anyone by "this" name, which I didn't, said that person had submitted a new account and profile using all of my info. I replied that neither did I know such a person nor did they have any right using my info, she said she would strike the account immediately.
Got me wondering just how much of this crap is going on? Any one else run into this? Just a heads up for the brethren.
Thanks Stan
Interesting Phone call from U-Ship

More often than you would believe........first thought that comes to mind related to you is auto theft........they load on your good name and chop the load. Shipper comes after you and your insurance. Could be very sticky as you try to clear your name.......
I would implement some security procedures e-pronto bud.
It's not the one verification call you got........ It's the 10 you didn't......

That's the problem though Chalupa, with the FMCSA putting ALL carrier info out there for the public to see, I have no idea how you would "secure" that. Just google your company name and EVERYTHING fom name, address, principle's, DOT/MC numbers, insurance companies, bond info, even how you file, is all attainable. -
The only thing worse then identity theft is corporate theft, especially on-line. Get ahead of it and set up new accounts, even with the weasels like UShip etc. Change PW's, etc. Someone got into yer pants and is hanging on. Been there and done it. Thankfully, only corporately. 'Luck. Cunuck out.

I called the boss one morning on the way home to talk about something... after he confirmed my special time off, he asks "So, how's the new air bag?" I say "Huh?" Turns out some P.O.S. calls in at 0DarkHundred saying he needs a com check auth # for installing a new air bag... gives my truck #, and a good location for when/where I was at that time of morning.... I had a weekly dedicated run so I was always on schedule, AND often had the same truck #... wake up regional dispatcher in the middle of the night, and he just wants to authorize the com check and get back to bed... dang. It only worked that once, however.... too bad they didn't catch the turd.

Wonder if there is a 'lifelock' type service that checks and monitors your mc# and dot # I would gladly pay $19.95 /mo for that

Agreed, but like I said, with the FMCSA having ALL of your info out there and available for the general public in snapshot with the click of a finger, I have no idea how that would work.
Think I may give my local DOT guy a call on Monday though, just to see if he has heard much about this stuff in general.mnmover Thanks this. -
This person was fired in 2012 from Star Fleet Trucking i found out she was still running under Star Fleet Trucking DOT and MC numbers. Star called uship and they removed the numbers. She is now running under Horizon transport numbers and they know about her.mp4694330 and KANSAS TRANSIT Thank this. -
I hope when/if they ever get stopped and paper work doesn't match they put them in jail, to my way of thinking since you are an interstate carrier crossing state lines it should carry a Federal penalty.
passingthru69 and LGarrison Thank this.
