New at this, so new I have not started yet. I am intrigued with owning a M2 Business Class, Single Axel Extend Cab. Semi. I go to places like Phoenix buy a car or truck and then drag it home, work on it and sell it. I am 65 years old. I was about to do a deal on a used M2 and I ran into a really nice used FL106 with 50 more horses in a Cat Motor and an Automatic 6 speed Allison. The M2 had an Eaton 9 Speed Standard and I was dreading the idea of shifting all day. So I was investigating the Auto Shift. Then this FL106 showed up its in excellent shape, at least it appears to be, I will have it checked out by a Freightliner dealer next week. At worse I would have a gooseneck and room for 2 cars in an enclosed trailer.

My questions are, is the FL160 ridiculously larger then the M2 and I should just stay with an M2 Idea? Or, are the M2 and FL160 similar in size and performance?

The objective is to stick a dually box on the back after removing the semi attachment, then put a ball for a fifth wheel trailer connection. My only concern at this time is that the gooseneck may have to be altered to clear the top of the box.

I realize this is not exactly what this forum was designed for but I figured if anyone knew you guys would. Lastly, I was told the C7 Cat had injector issues (300HP 2005-7) true or false?

Thanks in advance... the hurry for me is the FL106 will be gone by mid week next week to an auction if I do not buy it. Its a 2005 FL 106, Extend Cab, AC, Auto, and 160,000 miles. Used for short hall, pulled a Coke company semi.

I don't understand why you need a Class 8 vehicle to tow one or two light cars? Why not an F250/350, or the big Dodge? 7mph isn't going to make a lot of profit. Maybe I just don't see the picture, but it seems like overkill at this point. Whatever, Best to you in all you do. Oh, don't worry about the FL106. There's a lot of good, usable trucks out there.

I really do not need a Class 8, in fact don't "need" anything but perhaps a Dually, but as you know, need and want can vary .
I am contemplating on changing the crown to a 3.4x or 3.7x to raise the gas mileage. A dually nowadays is almost $90,000 in Canada. A Good used M2 or FL is $25K and they should last forever considering the lack of abuse it will get if I buy one.

So I was rather hoping I could raise that 7mpg to 11-13mpg with a crown and pinion change. At 11-13mpg I would get about the same mileage as having a F350 pulling hard only the M2 (Class6) or the FL106(Class 8) would not know it was pulling anything.

Duallies are also more expensive to maintain than a medium duty truck. I forgot the class but neither of the little shakers in question are class 8. The C7 is a good little engine. Yes they had some injector issues as well as HPOP issues. (High pressure oil pump) What one ton ford Chevrolet or Dodge doesn't
have injector issues as well as EGR cooler issues etc. To pull the cab off the ford for turbo or head service is nuts. True done right it's an easy task, how often will that happen. At least with the shaker and C7 it's pretty straight forward.

Yes the M2 106 is a Class 6 and to be honest I am not sure what the FL 106 is, Class 6 or 8????
I think working on a M2 or FL is easier when it comes to engine work, granted for a Wrench head like me thats used to cars, I will find removing a Tire a big deal :biggrin_25523: but, I do have air tools and the wife :biggrin_25525:
