I live in houston. 15 years experience between Hhg , Dry load and reefer . Clean MVR. No tickets or accidents. Not interested in going home. Looking to make money. Although I have no car hauling experience.
Here are three companies which I'm exploring the possibility
United Road , pre approved waiting on a interview.
Jack cooper, Re emailing my application after error inputting drivers license number
Usal , Application sent , called them 2 days later, Recruiter told me to be patient ... I do not want to put pressure and sound like an amateur.
Any other good out of state companies that hire Texans ?
Comments and critique are welcome
Thank you all
Which car hauler would choose from these 3?

Jack Cooper hand down. Union carrier, better working conditions, pay scale and health insurance and retirement benefits.
skinnytrucker, canadianredneck, already gone and 1 other person Thank this. -
The question is which one will choose you. It is the company doing the hiring. Personally I'd pursue Cooper. Not necessarily because of the union either. IBT, been there, done that. They protect the non producers. That being said, Cooper was able to weather the bad economy and still survive, so they must be dong something right.
canadianredneck, truckon and 12 ga Thank this. -
Id pursue which ever fits what you want whether its home time, money, routes etc there is alot of over the road outfits if thats what your looking for.
canadianredneck Thanks this. -
There is a learning curve with car hauling so you won't be making money off the top. Takes time I'm not to sure about the other outfits I work for jack cooper union pay scale benefits etc ... but from experience you have to go with the company that fits your needs. Usal heard they were a good company but really strict and united road is not bad at all . Since you live in Houston a lot opportunities out that way. Good luck buddy..

If you can do the union thing (it's not for everyone,) Cooper is the place to be. USAL is one the best big non-union carriers, and would have the most modern fleet of these 3. URS is far and away a distant third, in both equipment and quality of employees. Almost everyone at Cooper and USAL will be carhaulers, URS has an awful lot of drivers who haul cars.
canadianredneck and ktut Thank this. -
Choosing between the two I would take united road hands down. Jack cooper in my area will lay the new guys off almost as soon as they start, only the senior guys get the work and make the money. And all of them are in old worn out trucks. I watched several drivers leave united and go to cooper in my terminal and then come back so they could pay their bills. As far as car hauling goes the union is done for. Cooper bought allied when they went under and now cooper is fixing to go under as well. I know of one driver who left united and went to the Midwest to work for cooper twice and came back to united both times. That says something right there.
but if I lived in Texas I would work for usul in a heartbeat.Last edited: Apr 27, 2015
