We have been hauling for them for a few months as o/o, the rates are kinda crappy but its steady work and they pay their bills on time. The co drivers i have talked to seem to be taken care of ok.

Like any industry there are good companies and bad. URS or United Road Service is one of the largest auto carriers in the industry. They are middle of the road in my opinion. I have a few friends who work for them and they have told me they are not the best but are ok. I was told that they are paid by the mile. Industry standard is a percentage, usually around 25% of the load for an experienced car hauler so I found that unusual but I know of a few other companys that do the same thing. The only problem with the really big companies, in my opinion, is that you are more of a number than anything else.

If you not hauled cars before you will have a hard time doing the special, exotic hauling that companies like Reliable and Horseless Carriage do. But there are companies like Waggoners, Select1 and DAS that do run enclosed trucks and they might be willing to train the right person.
