Something that'll keep you warm and dry ................
OK, seriously (I'll put the wisea$$ hat away) ...... For car haul, you need rain gear made from decently tough rubber, or close to it. You'll constantly be rubbing against rough edges, pins, posts, etc. I usually just wear coveralls or an orange vest because with rain gear on I'll be just as wet inside (from sweat) then outside. Cooler times of the year I'll wear a rain suit. I've used Hurricane brand by CarHartt and Viking brand by Marks Work Warehouse. For the winter, I use heavy winter coveralls. Depending how cold it is, I just layer underneath from a t-shirt, up to sweatshirts, hoodies, wool cap and or full facemask. -
I was going to mention that with rain gear on you get wetter from sweating inside, but Speedloader already did.
Best winter hat I ever had was a hardhat liner with flannel inside. Coveralls keep in body heat and still breathe. -
As far as rain gear I highly recommend Helly Hansen gear. It's light weight and super durable. You can find it at Tractor Supply and stores like Big R, Rural King or Farm and Fleet type stores. I've had mine for a while now and it's great.
Winter gear I to just layer up. I did get a nice pair of high vis coveralls from Truck n' tow that were nice.
Now if I could just find some decent gloves....... -
CE Schmidt at Tractor supply make some good gloves. The ones that have the extra leather sewn on the thumb and finger tips. I get a good 4-5 months out of mine. I tried to find a link on their site but couldn't find them on there which makes no sense. Knowing my luck they probably stopped making them now that I found out that they last awhile. Frogg Toggs makes some good breathable rain gear also

Are shoes preferred over boots?

As far as gloves go, in the winter I wear Thermastat- brand liners (they resemble compression socks the weave is so tight) under insulated leather gloves. When it's sloppy, I always have some waterproof gloves to wear. I'd also suggest always having two pairs so one pair can reside under the heater vent while you are wearing the other. In summer, mechanic's gloves are my favored choice for grip, dexterity, and wear. They are a pain to get on and off, but I only pull the right one off when in the cars, so it's not a huge deal. I love goatskin gloves, too; but their durability isn't the greatest.SLANT6 and Speedloader Thank this. -
flipflops and speedo"s is the best thing to wear when its raining
You may get some funny looks but it works
