It is often difficult to infer tone from text, I am the one who misunderstood and made an assumption then. I do appreciate your experience and information. Can you recommend a reputable shop online that sells HAM radios? Also information on how to become licensed? That is something I have searched online, but am still not clear on what the different grades are and such.

For a start stay with the larger ones like ...

    www.randl.com , www.aesham.com , www.hamradio.com
There are many more but these can back up what they sell.

There are 3 classes of licenses Tech, General and extra class... quickly they are ...

Tech class gives you part of 10 meters and all of 6, 2 meters and higher.

General class gives you part of 80, 40, 20, 17, 12 and all of 10 meters and higher.

EXTRA CLASS you have all the ham radio frequencys .

The tests are givin by fellow hams at local clubs and cost about $15 this covers the postage and expences of the person givin the test ... The FCC set this after they figured what it was costing the tester he is NOT making money.

Sample tests are on www.qrz.com and if you can pass them you should pass the real test.

    PHOTOS ....
Some quick shots around the station BTW the wires are not close to the anennas i had to shoot the photos from under them to get everything in

    You said:
There is no such thing as a legal 4 watts from a export radio. Only certified radios can be used on the CB band.

    You said:
The needle during receive is a "S" meter. Not a watt meter. It shows the received signal strength of the incoming signal.

I would agree with Bruce as to getting a good CB radio rather than one of the export models.

I would encourage you to study and get your ham license. It isn't that hard and I think you will really enjoy ham.

You guys just didn't have the touch. I'd bet you were trying to tune it with your RIGHT hand. They were LEFT handed radios. :biggrin_2556:

Try using one on CW with a 200 hz filter. That was real fun.

Well, I have proven my inexperience here gentlemen, BUT, I am willing to listen and learn. I do appreciate your patience with me, I want to learn more. I read everything that I can, but only so much can be learned from web searches. Radios are great tools and a fun hobby, but it is difficult to shuffle through all the misinformation and identify the true information. I thank you again for taking the time to try an educate me, and you can rest assured it does not fall on deaf ears.

Well I'm LEFT HANDED and still had no luck mine lasted ONE DAY and the dealer took it back ..... I also had the SWAN transverter from 6 to 2 meters MORE JUNK.

AH the GOOD OLD DAYS ...... :biggrin_2559:

On 6 I ran a DRAKE R4b/T4xb/TC-6/SC-6 combo also had the TC-2/SC-2 for 2 meters

I was having some fun with you Bruce. I never found any of the Swan line worth very much. They were a low cost Line.

I had the advantage of working for Associated Radio back in the mid 60's and used any unit made.
