| Magnum s-3 I recently upgraded from a cobra 29 Dale E edition to a magnum s-3. Only to find out that it is ilegal. I don't know much about cb.'s but I always thought that the ones that were not for me were the ones that had that other screen for other frequencies. Since the s-3 doesn't have it I thought it was ok. The guy at the cb. shop Told me not to mess with the abcdef switch when I asked him what it was for. Does it mean I can't use it or to only stay away from these other frequencies? I mean if I use it only in channel 19 I'm good or is it still interfering where it shouldn't. Sorry, but I just read some threads on this section which I think I should've read before...........go easy now

| Re: Magnum s-3 I don't know much about this stuff but they told me there at the shop that they convert it and it was peaked and tuned for 100 watts dead key and around 80 pep. Something like that, maybe it was the other way around.

Now lets put your radio up against a 5 watt radio into the same antenna to another radio 5 Miles away. Lets say that our friend is recieving our 5 W radio at 1 s-unit or S-1. We hool up your 50W radio and our fiend only sees 2 S- units or S-2. S-units are that scale on your meter hat reads S-1 thrue 9 and then you'll see a + sin and maybe a 10db, 20db, up to a 60db. See that extra power really means nothing. Now, lets take a clean 5W signal vs, a dirty 50W signal. There will be very little difference on the distant reciever between the two. There is a possability that the 50W radio will be weaker.

| Re: Magnum s-3 Well I did see a gain on distance and my antenna was checked out which was fine. So what you are really saying is that 4 watts can come across the same distance as 50 watts? What's the point of tweaking em up? I should've checked in with you guys here first.
